I'm getting a flat line...

okay, now my question is... after recording a sample into the mpc (via turntable, dj mixer) and looking at it in trim mode, is it normal to be looking at a flat line? i looked at the same sample in sound forge, cause i'm curious, and found the same thing. there minor raises along the flat line but not high enough to even consider.

umm... help?

connections go as follows:

turntable plugged into DJ mixers LINE 1 L&R. when turntable is plugged into PHONO 1 L&R i receive no sound. then, DJ mixer plugged into MPC via standard RCA cable with 1/4" adaptor at one end. MPC gain has been adjusted during several attempts, same result. cables appear to be fine, but i am skeptical about using standard RCA's (if there is a difference).

on the MPC currently in record mode> input: ANALOG; mode: stereo; moniter: on; threshold: between -48 and -51
record gain has been set at various high levels each attempt. made very little difference.

when i record into MPC everything sound fine, just no waves. i've tried to record other audio samples at high levels (playing & recording) and found some difference. however, the wavelength still has minor peaks and valleys.

since i am noticing a difference, can this be normal? i don't feel it is since, i've seen other samples in chopshop with greater peaks and valleys.

What kind of turntable are you using? Does it have line output?
Is the channel on your dj mixer switched to phono?
Cables are not going to "look" bad, but still could be bad. Test different cables. These are easily ruled out possibilities.
