Duration Is Also Set To 24 When In Step Edit Overdub

Heya. More a curiosity question than a necessity but when I'm in step edit and using overdub the duration always get set to 24 no matter how long I hold down the pad for. In record mode it goes to the length of the pad.

Anyone know why? just thought it was a little weird...
