Turntable to Mpc

I've got an adapter to connect my 2 audio cables from my turntable into a slot in my mpc500. although, the 500 has a right and left. when i put the adapter with the 2 audio cables(1red, 1white) connected to it into either the left or right slot on my mpc and switch it to stereo, it only produces sound in that side,(right slot=right speaker, left slot=left speaker). BUT, when i switch the settings to mono, it produces sound in both speakers, not only one side. my question is, does it make a difference which setting i record in, either stereo or mono. does one setting take up more space or memory?

I'm not sure what you have going on here exactly in terms of cable configuration but . . .

If you're going from a turntable you're going to need a phono preamp in there, either a dedicated preamp (can be obtained for $20) or the line outs on a mixer or receiver. With that setup you'd have two RCA (left and right channels) going to two 1/4 jacks into your MPC 500. Any other way you will have distortion because the RIAA equalization curve will not be applied.

Now, if you're using something like a Vestax Handy Trax, or one of the Stanton decks with dual phono / line out capabilities ignore me.

As for how much sampling time you get in mono or stereo mode, if the MPC is sampling just one channel you get double the sampling time you would in stereo. Now, if you just have one channel connected in the back but you're still sampling in stereo mode, then you're just capturing dead air in one channel and using up all the memory with it.

That is the adapter that I have, the red and white cables are from my Turntable.



Now I have the adapter with the red and white cables connected to it, inserted into my mpc500's Right Input. Notice that the Left Input is empty. Do I need a different adapter that has two prongs instead of the adapter that I've got that only has one, maybe a Dual adapter. That way, wouldn't I be able to hear sound from both sides?

You're using the wrong adapter homie.

You need to get two RCA to 1/4 cables or two RCA to 1/4 adapters one for left, one for right (white and red each). Something like this:

Radio Shack has them too, but they don't sell them binded like Hosa. You're still going to have to deal with preamplification.
