iv been listenin to a shitload of J Dilla intsrumentals and alot of his tracks just have to many difference sequences going on..

iv also noticed that alot of producers will play the whole track from start to finish and not connect any sequences besides drums.. is this what dillas doin i guess? its definetly harder kus you have to play each hit perfect but im pritty used to not quantaizin anythin when connecting sequences so want to take the next step by playing the sample through the whole song to give it more of a live performance

i like the idea of having to play the whole song may take longer but allows more creativity i think anyway hit back!

haha! totally phunny... everybody wants to be Jay Dee...

which is understandable... his music is pretty awesome...

j-tawn:

definitely work on creating variation within your track --- it's essential.

but you don't need to make a 64 bar seq and then play your chops all the way
through in one take...

generally i'll work with 8 or 16 bar seq's.

make the one crucial awesome part for your track first...

then copy this seq, edit, rearrange etc... you want to work towards the great seq.
build up to it... you know?

i do this by just making a whole bunch of sequences and then linking them together
in song mode. then you can convert them back into a single seq.

waaaay easier than playing consistent chops for that long... or trying to navigate a
really long sequence to edit a very small section of it.

I feel U J-Tawn everybody always thinkin J Dilla was original but he wasn't he stole someone else's style studied it and made his own style...the problem with this site is most people on this site is quick to say learn your own style but I see nothing wrong with learning Dilla's style or anyone else's because no matter what you do you will never be "Dilla".....I'll say this and be done with it....EVERYONE STOLE FROM SOMEONE, I DONT CARE WHO THEY ARE, NO ARTIST, PRODUCER, SINGER, SONGWRITER ETC....EVER CAME UP WITH THERE OWN STUFF THEY ALL TOOK SOMEONE ELSE'S STYLE AND MADE THERE OWN. Everyone on this site has been inspired by someone and has stole there style to some degree and made there own style.

un uhhh.... not me... Im original

This is really starting to become an issue lately, and that is the dumb negativity on the forums... its ok to be negative peeps, but its not ok when you dont have anything beneficial to support that negative comment. Some people just are going to hate just because thats them... so dont let that stop those of you who are trying to open and expand your minds
