Here it some tips to your Dilla questions.


First dig for breaks that dilla and a zillion others used.

Second find the same records he use and listen and you will get it.

These are essential parts of the whole picture.

Then the light will come on. :idea:

No need to hate on mans.

You gotta learn from others, as a base, then flip it in your own style. I used to spend loads of time tring to work out how other producers tricks were done. Now I got my own ways of doing things but its influenced by many other guys.
I've straight up coppied some one elses beat before (when I was staring out) it put thing in to persective.

I think we all should share the knowledge of how to be the best at producing beats but there's 1 small problem..."FEAR"..thats it, seems like most guys on this site are afraid to give out any TIPS because they dont want you to become better than them...It's just like diggin for records no one wanna tell what record he flipped or where he got his drums because they are not confident in themselves..they dont want someone better than them flippin records...AMP FIDDLER a well know musician in detroit introduced Dilla to the MPC and the rest is history...so AMP FIDDLER is responsible for the DILLA u know....So what is the purpose of this site?...does anyone know?...are we here to help one another?....or is it the only words some of us know are...RTFM?..... :lol:

yea see this is exactly what i mean Im not trying to sound like J dilla at all i want to learn from him so I really dont get this NOT ME im original again stateing that im shouting out HEY someONE tell ME HOW TO BE LIke JAY DILLA na man im really not doing that

There's no law that says they have to share their secrets or techniques. Keep what you want, share what you want. They don't have to share their signature with you. Some will, some won't. That's life. Draw your own fear conclusion though. :D

The greatest thing about Dilla was that he surprised everyone with his ways of producing. It was very simple, but also got the point across. What dilla did with an MPC3000 and swollen hands from Lupus, most kats still can't do the same years later with their MPC5000, quad core computers, unlimited plug-ins, bootleg softwares, protools, reason refills, and a clean bill of health.
