Q-Slider Q's

Hey!
I am an uber-noob (I don't even own an MPC yet) and I wanted to know if you can manipulate the pitch of a sample using the Q-Slider or do you need to load the same sample but with different pitches to the pads. and if you can, can you record the pitch changes in the sequencer?

but it don't pitch bend - it only shifts midi note info up and down.

What else can the Q-Link do and how do I set it to do so?

And.. it only changes the pitch of the ENTIRE sample. Meaning that if you have a long sample and you move the slider during the playback of this sample, it doesn't change pitch. You can also use them to control other parameters like sample layers. The problem is, you have to manually set the range of each of the four samples per pad. And the slider only controls one pad at a time. Honestly, I don't see much use for these sliders. I'm interested to hear who have put these sliders to good use.

i have found that with the q link sliders that i can take two of the same sample, ex: snare, and very easily change the pitch on one of them and i have two simlar sounding but different samples.

i dono it just makes more possibilites from the samples i already have ya no. but i hear you when you say that the have no real good use.

Yeah I wanted to have like a bass sound and create a bassline by varing the pitch of the sound... I can do it with the q-link?

The Q-Link is too restrictive to do this. Just use 16-levels set to Pitch. That way you have an octave and a half to work with. That should be enough range for a nice bassline.

no man he meant the 16 level functions (TUNE) which takes the same sample and spreads it over 16 pads. Just turn it on and hit a few pads you'll understand. You got that confused with velocity dependant on how hard you hit the pads,

so far i've used them for jamming basslines during live gigs (set to tune) and also for jamming and recording in filter sweeps... it is dumb as you like that you have to select the track in order for the Q-link to work, but there ya go... i usually make sure any Qlink tracks i want to use playing live i have on track 1 and 2 so they are easy to swap between.

I havnt really found a great use for the Q-links myself.. but u can get a decent saw wave by taking a tiny tiny tiny piece (one peak) of the wave form of a saw wave and assign it to a pad and put loop on.. then use the q-link to change the "tune" of the pad.... kinda good when it works... dunno if u can do anything else but saw with it working correctly.. i dunno?

anyone else got any uses for the Q-link? I aint really found em that useful unfortunately...

Yeah, I meant TUNE (don't know why I said PITCH hehe) Anyway, I like that idea of tweaking a looped sample with the Q-Link slider. I'll have to try that. Thanks!
