Flagship Woes

Man, after checking out the 5k thread, I've noticed the katz over there are burdened with o.s. issues and glitches. The few bugs the 4k might have doesn't outweigh the ones I'm reading about on the 5k. This is propably why most folks that own a 5k are mum to the fact that they are this products first guinea pigs. So the prenupt fanfare that preceded this product ain't so grand at this point...I wonder why?

Plus have you noticed a lot of the negative publicity for the 4k has basically stopped (at least from what I see).

So what are some of your thoughts on this?

didn't think their were that many problems with the 5k os.
The 4k still the most capable mpc, however the 5k will be easier to use.

fundementally the 5k is alot of money to spend when u can get the majority of the functionality from lower models. But then I would be very happy if someone gave me one! :D
On a personal level every demo of the included va sound thin and cheap so thats a major minus for me.

Its also worth pointing out that thanks to the great conversion capabilities of programs like cdxtract and translator theres never been a better time to have a full keymap sampler.
I have got around 20gigs of really wonderful sounds sat in my mpc now with various folders containing my favourites.
That seems alot stronger to me than a cheap va.
At £800 note for a second hand 4k its starting to look like a bargin!

I've had the manual for years, wishing and hoping that I'd come up on 1 one day.
I've played with a 4k a few times but that was LONG time ago. I won't be bugging you guys though.

Not at all, I'm all about self-help, u feel better afterward. :lol:

Hey lamp, when you say fully maxed out, do you mean in terms of memory, features, or both?

It`s all good Lamp bug as much as you want it is great to see a vet on a 4k doing damage plus adding tips to the board as that has been long in between now.

And as to dabmeisters thread yeah there are more alot of mis steps but in the hands of experience it is just water under the bridge. I`m out and back to the DAW + 4k thread or potential forums. :wink:

Ha ha! There you go...all I can say is...dig in to your hearts desire. Dog, as you know, this machine has crazy capabilities.

I ALMOST got a 5k, but I looked at the feature set of both via the manuals, I was just drawn more to the 4k is all. I can't explain it but that was my choice. All the mpc's had problems when they were first born I guess, so 5k having problems is expected also?!?! I'm sure the 6k will have problems as well. And the 7k and the 8k, etc....

I remember when I bought my first triton classic, I had NO problems, my asr 10 and asr x pro, I had NO problems. When I first pulled my triton extreme from the box, NEVER a problem, even after updates, not a one. My 2kxl was when I started to see screen freezes and the infamous untrapped error codes runnin on the screen (not often but it did happen) and all you could do was reboot.

Why can't Akai get that right with the new release of mpc's? Boggles the mind. :roll: :?

A lot of us know that you was waiting too long to put the hands on a 4K!!!
I'm really happy for you.
Next week I'll be in Amsterdam. During my holiday I'm going to test the MV8800 for 3 hours
in a shop where I'm already customer.
But, I don't know why, I feel a constant mystical calling from the MPC4000.
Plus, I'm still a mac OS9 user; it's mean: I can feel at home with the aksys...

512 ram, hd, adat, 8out, cdrom, vga. Everything. :D
