Hi guys.. I'm new!!this is my first post..and first of all I want tell you thanks..for this beautiful forum!!
I have red a lot of topics..but only today I have signed up!!
anyway...yestarday I have received my MPC 4000 damaged (imported from usa) thanks to UPS!!
there is a bump in the rear exactly in the "Worldclock in" position (that is not installed on my unit).
I have tryed to turn on the unit yestarday...and It worked...but I couldn't read nothing from the LCD screen...because It remained completly Blue.
so I have decided to open the akai and check what was wrong...and I found two RAM modules (one 128MB module and another 256MB)...that was wandering in the internal case of the AKAI!!
the absurd thing was thath the old owner told me..that the item has got 16 MB of ram installed and that he heared something thath rattling inside from when he bought this unit!!
but the story don't end here:
like an idiot (I was so ungry)..I have disconnected the white cable of the LCD and the AKAI suddenly shutdown (and I knew perfectly that all technical operation must be done with the item turned off and with the powercable disconnected)!! I couldn't turn on it for 4-5 minutes (I think it was in protection).!!
anyway Now I can turn on it but the LCD now is completly black...! It don't turn on more..although I hear that the AKAI power on ( I hear the HD start..the cd player and the cooling fun too!!). I have tryed to do something and I can hear the metronome..so I think that the AKAI still works fine!! the only problem is the LCD!!
now I don't know...if tryed to repair it by myself or ship to the OFFICIAL ITALIAN "CRIMINAL" AKAI REPARATION CENTER!! In this case I know...I will pay 10 times more what I need but "more important" I will see my MPC back in years...!!
what do you think??
thanks guys..

Something that complicated and that expensive I would never buy it without being able to test it out first, Next time you buy something used online, Pretend like you live near the person that is selling the Item and see how they react to you wanting to meet them somewhere (Public Place) so that you can try it out, If they start acting IFFY I would pass it up. Hope it works out for you one way or another!

Also, WELCOME to the MPC-forums

I hope you mentionned to UPS the unit was defect on the delivery paper or you r **** up...

The MPC 4000 will be very hard to repair cause many parts are not available anymore, that s why AKAI stopped it.

well..I'm optimist because I hear that the MPC still works..! probably the problem is only the LCD..or the Cable LCD but I don't want risk to order an pay an LCD screen from internet and after discover that the main problem wasn't the LCD! so at 90% I will send it to the italian AKAI Reparation CENTER!
anyway about the 4k parts...what are you speaking about excuse me??
I have seen.. LCD screens, Motherboards..and a lot of other MPC 4000 parts avaible on internet!!
The problem is that I live in Europe and I must import all
