some people just don´t understand that a mpc is not just for hiphop and in electronic dance music there are a lot of generes which sound the way they sound because they use a lot of quantization.
a pumping sidechain compressed house line just don´t sound good if the beat is swinging all over the place.
use whatever tools are provided to acchieve the effects you want to express in your music...
most of the people who are saying the don´t use quantize are not able to hit more than four bars with their own rhythm without dropping out of tempo. just try it yourself - turn of quantize and try to lay down a three minute drumline for a song in one go.

unless you want to play live the way you produced your music doesn´t matter - if people like the tune they will dance.
i wonder how many world hits would not be here if the producers didn´t use the tools of their times (i admit some bad music would not be here, either). 8)

I am confused, what is this? Is it a question or a statement by the OP...... It does not matter how one gets to his/her finished product. I am new at this and quantizing isdef a useful feature, I do not use it often (Don't understand it fully), but I def use it on occasion.

As someone mentioned, I tried laying down a basline over 16 bars and completely failed the 10th bar evry time..... It all boils down to user preferrence.

this forum is about using quanitze and not using quantize with the effects are as you grow as a producer. i belive if you practice and keep practicin using non quantize in your beats you will have more options in a rythem you wana set. shiiiiiiiiiii*t if your a G you could prolly like man a non quantize drum patter sound quantized .. really think about it this is better in the long run

it all depends on the genre like selecta said 4 on the floor music is reliant on exact timing the bass drum has to boom in correct sequence its something that is really really really hard to do without quant. now if you going for a more soulful feel the n ya you probably want to turn quant off like everyone else is saying it depends on the music the genre the structer of your track

dabmeister wrote:FYI J, have you used different time sig resolutions when you use quantization? This goes hand in hand in obtaining whatever feel you're trying to get.

when you say time sig resolution are you talking about setting your beat to double BPM?

dabmeister wrote:or are there a few of you that don't set any set measure lengths and just start from beat one. Just curious :)

you mean like using the default 2 bars, I shouldnt do that?

Nah, I'm sorry, I might not have phrased that right. I'm talking about the timing resolutions ie: 1/8, 1/16, 1/32, 1/64, including triplets.

I was referring to pattern & song structure, including the famous three, five, seven, and any other odd number patterns, unless one's doing fusion jazz or something.

I use one, two, four, eight, & sixteen bar/measure patterns almost exclusively whenever I structure a tune.

i tend to leave quantize on and more than half the time the music sounds like it was recorded without quantization. learn the capabilities of your machine and ud be surprised what u can accomplish with a little bit of creativity.
