Hey guys,
I've spent the last few days cutting up some loops from tracks I released on an album and some of the loops go for about 8 bars, while the longest one is 64bars, just over a minute in length.

My question is have any of you had problems using JJOS1 4.xx with samples intended to be longer loops, or does the MPC 1000 usually loop with no problem? I've got plenty of free RAM, so on paper it seems OK. I'll find out myself tonight for sure, I'm just interested in knowing your experiences...

for use as audio tracks, or midi triggered events?
problem with the latter is that you'll have to play from the start (before the recorded midi note) in order to have the loop play. ie, you can't expect for it to play if you start from after the recorded midi note. this is not the case with audio tracks

otherwise you should be fine if you're already aware of this.
remember that larger wav files will start bogging you down as your ram gets more and more full.

I'll just be using them as audio. Basically using track mute on and off. No midi, I'm going to try and keep everying in the box if I can just to keep it simple.

I know it might sound a little weird but with my experience using the Roland SP-606, it had a really hard time keeping the timing of samples triggered at the same time together with longer loops. The timing would drift something awful, sometimes before the first cycle of a 16-bar loop.

I've got a few other ideas for this unit in my head so it'll be fun to see if they hold up. I'm excited to see how formidable this machine is.

i tend to warp them in ableton. so they're concrete. The samples may be fluctuating in tempo

OK to revisit my earlier post - even with the longest samples I had and using 108mb out of the 128mb in the RAM, everything is looping fine! I played with them for about 7 hours yesterday trying everything I could to try and knock it out of time. What a miraculous machine. I'm going to be playing at a festival this weekend in Canada and I CAN'T WAIT to unleash this machine on the crowd.

Having an MPC in my studio as opposed to the SP-606 has made a world of difference. I want to give the entire Akai company a big hug right now.
