MPC1000 & Cubase 4 Essentials *MIDI PROBLEM* Need Help!!!!!!

Okay, here's the deal.......

I just bought Cubase 4 Essentials and am having a *HUGE* problem. I haven't changed anything on my MPC1000 and it was working just fine with Nuendo for the PC. I am now running Cubase 4 ES on a PPC Mac G5 using Tiger OSX 4.9 and using Midi through a UNO Midi USB cord, no different then my PC setup.

I've searched and googled and nobody has been able to answer this question so far so I'm hoping I can get my answer here........

I have opened a 16 Midi Track template. I am using the MPC as my sequencer & Cubase as a host for VSTs. I have every Midi track on it's on Channel (Track 1 is on Channel 1, Track 2 is on Channel 2, etc........) and have changed *NOTHING* on my MPC from my PC setup, I even went back and hooked it up to my PC to see if it still worked properly on there and it did.

My issue is that no matter what Channel I have my MPC set on (1A, 2A, 12A, etc.......) it triggers *ALL* the Midi Channels in Cubase and it's really starting to become frustrating. I remember I had this issue on my PC when I first got it and cannot remember how I did it. I just want each Channel to only respond to 1 Channel (1A - Cubase Midi Channel 1, 2A - Cubase Midi Channel 2, etc.......) but my MPC is triggering all the Midi Channels in Cubase.......

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me with this........

Okay, so new update.......

I know positively now that it's not my MPC because I loaded up reason and it yet again played whatever instrument was selected regardless of Midi Channel until I was able to assign each instrument to a midi bus, then 1A on the MPC & 2A etc were able to play a different instrument that I assigned.......

I'm not sure why Cubase isn't responding this way, any help would be appreciated.......

You have to go into cubase and do your setting up stuff there. Check & see what your default midi setup in cubase is like or if it's setup or initialized anyway.

I opened up the basic 16 track midi template.......

it has 16 channels

I set the midi input on all them to UNO SPORT Midix1 which is my midi usb input, same as on my PC.......

then I set the 16 different channels to 1 midi channel each (Track 1 - Channel 1, Track 2 - Channel 2, etc) but it triggers whatever channel I'm on at the time no matter what channel my mpc is on (3A still triggers Midi Channel 1 or 2 or 1 & 2, etc)........

I'm so stuck because every other program acts normal.......

I opened up my standalone Plugsound Pro and channel 1-16 only responds to the MPC channel of the same number.......

I'm so stuck right now

You're good there. But what I think you'll need to do is turn off whatever "recieve all channels" setup you've got in Cubase and set it up as multi.

Where can I choose to turn off the "Receive All Channels" and activate "Mulit?" I can't find it anywhere in the Manual.......

I think I'm getting close to the resolution.......

If Cubase 4 is anything like Nuendo 3, you'll need to go to your devices menu> device setup> under the midi subfolder, highlight default midi ports.

Here this will show you what port(s) are routed to and from Cubase, so you can be sure of what's connected and where you want it to go.

When I go to Ports, it only shows 1 in and 1 out which is the Uno Midi Sport but doesn't have any other options.......

Any other suggestions? The Mac setup might be different from the PC as far as menus.......

Make sure each track/instrument has its own corresponding midi channel in Cubase.

I had to resort to callin' steniberg and come to find out that they took the "Midi Input Transformer" feature out of ES 4. I was pissed, I actually just got back from Guitar Center and had to pay $200 to get regular Cubase 4 Studio cuz it has the feature. I got it working properly now but man it was pissing me off lol

Cool Glad you found out what it was.

I ran into this issue back when I was messing around with an old copy of Cubasis on a PC. To get around it I had to run an additional midi routing/processing app such as Hubi's loopback or MidiOx etc. to process the midi separately before it was sent to the sequencer.
