Akai apparently not going to make new pad sensor available?

So...Ive been told that Akai will no longer make the newer pad sensor available for people in need of repair, but will continue to sell their flawed pad sensor.

They will however continue to sell the newer pad sensor within their newer mpc1000's.

They believe this will minimize backlash...,does that seem right?

Old news? That's the first I've heard this one, what's the source? When was this announced? Doesn't make much sense really. Why would they get themselves in more trouble by reintroducing a notoriously flawed design for a replacement part? "Minimize backlash?" ha ha too late -- just look in the archive.

I know Akai is pretty dumb but I'd have to see the proof before I'd accept the idea that they were that stupid.

Actually, I'm sure this is crap because if a shop or someone needs a replacement pad bank for one of the NEW units, what are they going to do? Replace it with a set of old style defective 1000 pads?

even though they released all these new models with the new pads.

I agree it's a nonsense, I guess the info was they won't produce the old pad design anymore. If the new mpc1000 is still produced then they produce the new pads it's just logical.

/\ plus they would be shooting themselves in the foot. I mean technically they are making a killing on the old MPCs. They sold them once and then rape everyone for a nice chunk of change to keep them running. Im so glad I sold my blue one and picked up a new MPC.

I am very disappointed with the quality of the MPC1000 pad sensors as mine
are flawed. I see that you now have a new, and improved pad sensor kit
available for around $200 although it seems that non can currently acquire
them as all outlets are on backorder.

As a longtime consumer of Akai products I have never felt so cheated, and
cannot believe I would have to pay additional money for a design flaw. The
MPC1000 pad sensors are of a very poor quality and never worked as they were
described. So since your pad sensors are flawed I feel that it is your
responsibility to compensate me, and supply me with the new improved pad
sensor kit.

All I want is what I paid for, and I am asking you to send me the new
improved pad sensor kit for my MPC1000BK

Hello David,

The pad sensors are not flawed on your MPC1000 unless you are having a
hardware problem. The kit that is available for changing your pads is just
another option for customers to be able to use a different type of pad. The
kit is known as the "Retro pad kit" and has a feel similar to the older
MPCs. If you are having mistriggering issues, please elaborate on the
problem in this email, or call our support line at 401-658-4032 so we can
help you. Your MPC1000 is covered under warranty for 1 year from the date of
purchase, so if you are having a mistriggering option we can troubleshoot
with you and if necessary have the MPC repaired if it is under warranty. If
you purchased the MPC over a year ago, below is a list of service centers
you can contact for non warranty service.

We will not be giving you a free retro pad kit, it's an accessory that if
you would like to purchase you could through our parts department. You can
reach our parts department at 401-658-4032.

You could ask them this: If it's an optional accessory, why is it included as standard in the new units? Why did they discontinue selling the old design if it was not in fact defective and opening the door to product liability?

If Akai's slippery story is for real, why don't all the new 1000s come with the same old defective pad design so we can have more fun paying Akai more money for a half way reliable and useable machine?

No no I don't think it will change anything, I just want to hear what kind of slick, shifty answer they come up with when directly confronted on their actions. People who like to be shifty should have to work for their money too.

Why not email them and ask why you can't get a MPC with the non-retro (i.e. broken) pads.
Claim you prefer the feel of the single ones and don't want retro. For the retro pads to be an option, there must be at least one other choice or by definition it is not optional and an accessory is of course optional.

Of course it's a waste of time, but if you don't mind wasting some of your time, I'm sure they won't appreciate having to spin their story to another customer.
