Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

Hi there,

what might be the reason if sound clipping occurs at the MAIN OUTs?
I have loaded the Akai Grand Piano Program that was included
in the MPC package. Playing single notes is working, while playing
chords generate some slight clipping. I have already gone into
the mixer to lower the output, but it doesn't change anything. I
have also ascertained that the clipping is inside the MPC and not
a mixer problem.

Try going into the GLOBAL menu and lower the MASTER level. If that doesn't help the next thing I would suggest, would be to check the RAM.

thanks,
this has actually been the case. Nevertheless, I wonder how decreasing the total output (in the GLOBAL PAGE)
at the end of the MPC's audio signal path can avoid clipping. As I've stated, the output has
not been to high for the external mixer inputs.

Bing! It's probably set on +4 dB output (which most highend/pro gear operate at this level) and not -10dB (which is the nominal output level on consumer gear).

If you're using a consumer grade audio amp, it's most likely to except -10dB.

In this case, try adjusting the volume by going to the programs list page (via the program button), then the F2 (KG MIX) button, then hit whatever pad representing that sample and scroll to the level adjustment.

You can tweak any sample this way, but to save it for future use, you'll have to save it to disk of course.

Turn global down like everyone said, and Route the entire multi thru a stereo-linked limiter/compressor algorithm...
...then let us know if it still clips!
