Problem recording analogue in?

I have come accross this problem qiute a lot recently, it is very tempramental. some times just re-booting the 4000 is enought to fix. but now i cannot seem to get it to work!! recording from main out is fine as is from the cd drive, its just analogue in! iv checked cables, recording volumes............ any ideas any one???????????

Can you describe what is happing. Is there a buzzing noise? Sound drops out? Is there no sound coming in? What's connected to the inputs?

there is no sound coming in at all. connected cables are jacks not rca. theres no buzzing. has been getting worse, originally i could just re-boot and every thing was working again as normal, but now it doesnt matter what i try, i cant fix the problem!! when i can receive analog in signal, every thing is fine, no cutting in or out, no clipping, no signal drop, no buzzing, no feedback, just fine!! its pissin me off!!!!!!!!!!!

It worked after restarting the MPC? Possibility that it could a Software issue. That is weird.

yeah very wierd!! but it doesnt always work after re start! once it took about a week before it started working again!! mystery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you try reloading the OS?

no i havnt, how do i go about doing that then? latest OS was on when i gt it so i havnt had to deal with the OS yet! is it on the disc that comes with the unit or do i need to hook up to computer?

ive re loaded the OS but still same problem!! ive tried both line/mic and phono inputs, no change.
i recorded a little section through analog in and found a few popping noises in random areas??
before i could switch off, re boot and it would be working but now nothing seemsto get it working!!
this is all sounding rather strange!! you would think its software, but im not sure!?!?!?!?!
