Congrats Lampy..

but just a heads up..

I hated the 4k at first ... thought it was confusing and too complex .. slow workflow...

today I´d say its much faster to work on than a basic Xl .. and way way way more capable... I can do whole productions on the 4k alone .. something I was never able to do on the Xl..

layering is a breeze, the sound nuts... plenty of filters mod matrix ..etc etc..

assigning qlinks is logical ... step seq can inspire new ideas..

give it some time, ...it will astound you

I've also been looking at a 3kle, I'd like it but it's "just because I can". I don't need it.
I'm on the verge of being greedy but I can control the urge.

I've played on a 4k many times before, I remember first getting on it thinking "wtf". I couldn't get anywhere I wanted, but after a few times, and stepping through the manual, I started to get the hang of it back then. Funny thing is that the SAME 4k I use to play with from time to time, I'm NOW buying, lol.

Yeah, one thing these katz fail to realise is...a newer machine doesn't guarantee better results.

And I wonder what percentage of these katz would drop their 5k for a newer model if it were to hit the shelves next week. ???

What is it that the 5k can do that the other models can't, other than providing talent if it were available (and features don't mean sh!t without this)?

The few bugs the 4k might have doesn't outweigh the ones I'm reading about on the 5k. This is propably why most folks that own a 5k are mum to the fact that they are this products first guinea pigs. So the prenupt fanfare that preceded this product ain't so grand at this point...I wonder why?

Plus have you noticed a lot of the negative publicity for the 4k has basically stopped (at least from what I see).

So what are some of your thoughts on this?

Rewind back to 2002. The same thing you are reading in the MPC 5000 forum is what was said about the MPC 4000. But 6 years have past and people are still using the MPC 4000. The same will be true for the MPC 5000. Anytime you buy a product that just reached the market, you are being the first guinea pig. I accept that role. Just like I helped advance the MPC 2500 (yes, I am taking credit for this since most of the advancements in the OS came directly off of my feature request list), I will help advance the MPC 5000 if Akai/Numark want to continue to sale MPCs.

As far as the negative publicity of the MPC 4000, it only comes from this forum. All the professionals that use the MPC 4000 are too busy making music and money and not writing petitions.....So if the negative publicity has stopped, than that is because the guys in this forum have finally realized that music can be made with it or they simply did what I suggested a long time ago...that is, get rid of their MPC that was giving them a headache.

All of what I'm getting at is the past vs. the present is a little different now. Wouldn't you agree that the release of the 4k came before Akai was transfered to the hands of Alesis/Numark (which I'm pretty sure we'd still have continued os support if this didn't happen)?

So Akai as we know them today is different from the company we knew back then. The 5k is this companies second stint at upholding the true Akai tradition (the 2500 being the first as I understand it). And I'm taking notes on how well the support goes on the 5k, which will help me in my decision for future purchases of MPC products.

I just hope that the 5k doesn't turn out to be a P.O.S, because I use to look up to this company as being one of the power houses of the electronic instrument era, and I somewhat still do. I remember my cousin coming back from Vietnam back in the day and he had this Akai reel to reel, which was eye candy to a little kid like me during that time. Ever since then, I took their products as being highend, including the release of their first MPC series.

Anyway, was that bug list petition for the 4k ever sent to Akai? And if so, is there any word on progress or something? Or was this whole thing a hoax from the start? These are the many questions a lot of us have, but I'm pretty sure most of us took it with a grain of salt. :| Somebody's rep is at stake...

Remember SCD said it was put on hold upon the 5k release to concentrate on the 5k O.S. updates aka never gonna happen.
But I have to give SCD some dap for being man enough to tell the forum the real deal.

No company replaces their flag ship model after a week. But in 3 years, when they replace the MPC 5000 with a 5000XL, 5000-LE, or a 6000....I will be among the first to let go of the MPC 5000.

What the MPC 5000 can do that the others can't is well documented as well as the fact that the older models can do things the MPC 5000 can't.

But there will be no 'flag ship woes' if you focus on what you have and stop worrying about what other people are using. There was very little chance that a bug update was ever going to happen. Who would spend resources on something they no longer fake?

A lot of companies from my experience. They're still providing updated drivers for my echo soundcards for one, and they've been out of production for about two or three years now.

Oh, has anybody made any compositions or beats with their 5k? Or are there too many bugs at this point to even consider such a task?

I'd like to hear something from some of you that has been composed with your 5k.
