if you knew your gear like you claim. you'd know whether this is a good trade off or not.

you dont know what you losing or gaining on the trade therefore you dont know your gear. simple as that...

point was if you dont know how to use your shit, you not gaining anything

^^^^^ That's a pretty pointless and patronising response!

Maybe the guy is just asking for opinions on the gear in question... this is a forum for electronic music afterall is it not??

I think the real crux is how much do you rely on the Fantom x6? Is it your workhorse synth or do you get your sounds from elsewhere?

The MPC side of the deal is pretty good, and will be much better once the bugs are ironed out of the 5K OS.

It's up to you my friend, but I think as deals go it's not bad at all.

You should try and get a 4K instead. Although probably less money wise. What are the 5K's going for?

how so ?

huh?
opinion is one thing, but he already owns almost identical machines he want to trade for. he should know what they are and what they're capable of. unless they they still in a sealed box...

true this is a forum, mainly designed with thought of akai samplers in mind, and other studio related. not so sure about electronic music. I think you might be confusing mpc forums with LiL John's fan boards or something...

yea numark is putting out amazing products indeed...enjoy your 3500 while it still works

to contribute to this post so you wankers dont catch feelings over the internet. I gotta agree with turntablewillie.

4000 is still much more appealing machine than any of the newer models introduced by numark.

and it's in price range of second hand 2500 or half cheaper than 3500.

i would say no because given akai/numarks track record its best wise to keep tabs on the 5k and see how that fairs say in about another 6 mths.

I wouldn't do it. Especially since I'm used to the jjos on the 2500. Chopping is supremely fast with it. It's a chop-shop machine! Like no other MPC. The 5000 will chop like it does on the akai os. Non intuitive, slow, etc.

The added features like the synth and effects are redundant imo, if you already have a keyboard workstation. Especially if you play your own samples and use that more of a source than relying on sampling every part off of a record. You'll be using your keyboard synth and effects a whole lot more than akai's traditionally notorius bad effects and first attempt at a synth.

You won't be gaining much with the 5000, but rather losing out on what makes the mpc so great - the ease and speed of it's quick workflow, which the 2500's jjos runs circles around the lame akai os.

The best combo to have to produce is an MPC (2500 w/jjos and/or 4000) and any keyboard workstation like a X6 or Fusion, Motif, etc.

You already have that! ..and of course the turntable, vinyl, etc.

If you don't use the jjos (which changes everything), then GO FOR IT!! You'll be getting much the same os anyway with added features that are iffy (you know the synth and effects won't be up to the standard of a X6, Triton, Motif, etc, so what's the point of having it built in to the mpc, it's not it's strong point and what its use is meant to be, which is mainly sequencing and sampling), and you'd be downgrading from a keyboard to a soundmodule.

I think what I was trying to say was lost in translation, maybe it's a UK thing, but by 'electronic music' I simply mean music created with samplers and sequencers etc. But again your response can be percieved as being a tad patronising... Know what i'm sayin?

It's pretty sad how many people in need of help in these forums get put down down by dudes with 1000s of forum posts, usually with stuff like "go read the manual" or "learn your gear better and you'll one day discover the answer"... what a crock of shit!!

Zookey2500 seems to have the best advice from what I have read on here, so maybe bare all that in mind.

Not sure about the jjos. I have had smooth sailing with akai os since day one. chopping is pretty easy. Not sure how much easier it could get.
Synth in the mpc is redundant. Fantom rack is really powerful peice of gear.

Rack modules are just as capable as the full workstation. Don't be confused by size. With a proper midi keyboard and the fantom xr you will be very happy. If you understand how to use a MIDI. Or are willing to learn.

thanks for the responses

i'm gonna start looking at the mpc4000 on the comparison charts and see how much $ they goin for nowadays

As far as the fantom, i mainly use it for sounds and effects, i was thinkin of getting the roland xr rack for the sounds

so I would have the sounds from the xr, and just an mpc, i could play on the pads, i dont really need the piano keys

But sometimes i worry i might want the piano keys to play with, thats my only worry, maybe I'll keep the fantom, and maybe look for a 2500 / 4000 trade and just switch up the mpc, try out the 4000 cus I really want an mpc that comes with stereo chopping without downloading something like the jjos, and i always hear people saying their 4000s are serious
