A lot of companies from my experience. They're still providing updated drivers for my echo soundcards for one, and they've been out of production for about two or three years now.

A lot of companies? You cannot compare drivers to OS updates. Especially since companies that make sound cards often use the same drivers for different, older, and newer cards....like RME. But the fact remains....Roland, Yamaha, and Korg are not releasing OS updates for any of their workstations and samplers they no longer sale which is no different than what Akai is doing. An MPCs shelf-life is approximately 3 years. After that, I wouldn't expect anymore OS updates.
