Should I pick up a used blue 1000...

with old pads? It's only $400 and has the upgraded 128mb memory. Are they basically guaranteed to fail?

im still using my 'factory refurbished' mpc1000 that i got for 700 off ebay last year. its treated me well (more so with JJ OS coming into existance) - but the pads are a little crappy on mine with the old design... sensors go off on their own at a light touch time to time, sensitivity is crap compared to all other machines and midi devices with pads that ive used (it aint the worst, i do a lot of stuff with FULL LEVEL kept on most times, or just do velocity changes playing with 16 levels)... but would be nice to upgrade to the better pads if they do indeed feel like what i had when i had the 2500 for a bit... so i say if its a deal grab it but add another 200 for the pad fix if you need it, otherwise may just work fine and not fail on you for awhile, but will eventually need the update before the pads all fail

i actually just did that, and its totally worth it. Unless your considering using it as a full time live drum machine in which case the pad thing might get in the way. But still 400 for a 1k, it's pretty hard to go wrong.

I agree with the above statements. The blue MPC's have the same functionality, but the pads are the weak point. Even if you paid the 400 plus the cost of the pad upgrade you have saved $200-$400 on buying a new one. Just make certain the one you are looking at does not have any other hidden problems. If you can save money and still get the same quality, then I say go for it.

I found one with pad and memory upgrades for $450. I'm going to try and cop that one but if things don't work out i'll be getting the other one.

Get the blue one. It's prettier than the black one.

yeah i like that skin to actually. but when they say skin do they mean a sticker/decal type thing or is it an actual casing made of hard material?

for $64.99 it better not be a decal lol

the thing is, when they show the "skin" they only show it already applied to an mpc. When they show "casing" they have pics of the black or blue casing empty.

I've had a blue 1k for two years now. I've had no problems with the pads at all. I say go for it.

I've had the old blue pretty much since they came out. My pads also still work as good as the day I got it, but that's probably because I hardly use them for anything besides switching modes. They always had a terrible feel for playing anyway.

They will die though. You're talking about pieces of rubber glued to rubber. Not the kind of construction you would want for something you are striking all the time. Striking isn't the only problem though -- at one point there was a rash of the things coming up dead right out of the box. Just a really bad design.
