My MPC 4000 Just Died!!!

I installed o.s. 1.51 a couple of months ago, everything was going fine untill today. I was in the middle of making a beat when my MPC 4000 froze. After I rebooted, the mpc was unable to find my hard drive. Now whenver I reboot my mpc just freezes and I am unable to load anything from the hard drive. Please Help!!!!!!!!!

If you can still acces the MISC window, try to disable autoload. It may load trashed, unvalid wavs.

I went to save my session last night to internal HD and got "invalid directory handle",
then went to save to cdrw and got "invalid file info"
then got the black screen of death':evil:' 8hours work down the !*&^%$£@

then rebooted and the first root folder(autoload) in my hd has "bad .wav file format" when trying to load samples

the second folder is ***********, its one with all my work in,the subfolders have been replaced with **&^%£ weird *&&^%$ writing ,wont load shit from there,no matter what ive try.':x'and it locks the 4k up every time i go into that directory.

the third folder is ok ,thats where most my samples are at...........
IM ************,just talked to akai tech on the phone and they said it can be caused through bad cables/loose connections and data corruption whilst saving.....******s,they also said there are know problems like this with seagate hds in the Dps24
then i talked to a akai service center, they said it would cost a **** of ££££££££ to recorver the corupted files and it sounds like the hd is the issue and the only thing ya can do is backup what ya can a do a full format,*****IT,
ive checked everything inside and reinstalled the os,everything i can think of.
I got behind on backing up and i think ive lost nearly all the work ive done since the the start of may':x'...


Anyzwayz ivejust backed up everything i can ,and im about to stick a new drive in,and light up some sticky *****

The main reason i bought an mpc was that i thought that that shit only happened to computers

It will take months to back up 80 gyg of data

Im very sorry for you guys,

can u pull the drive out and attach to a computer to salvage the files? If the HD is really dead it won't help but it might be worth a try

I had the same problem last week.. (see this post: http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=13196) After the crash, if I loaded songs, some wavs where missing or could nt be loaded. So I kept loading the song anyway and replaced the faulty programs with new programs wich where still on another physical IDE drive inside the MPC. (I have two drives 2x 40GB) Everything is working now and I can load all my songs again.

You must did something wrong! Maybe you loaded a bad wav via USB from the computer? I did.. I thought it was my DVD drive that had caused the crash, but it was a bad wav file wich I downloaded from the internet! You should always check your wavs in a wave editor before dropping them into the MPC!

Thats complete nonsense, dude! My pc couldnt handle those files either (Wavelab). If its a bad wav, its a bad wav and no machine will read it cause its BAD!!

If you only record and dont use wavs from internet/pc, you wont run into this kind of [bleep] !

Its a bit more complicated than "a good machine should nt have this kind of problems"
[Its more like: a good MPC'er would nt run into this kind of problems!]

I know a thing or 2 about application design, and one thing is sure, just a bad file shouldnt totaly hack up a system period.

If the mpc4k wont load a bad file,, thats ok,, but if you get a full harddisc crash, just because of a bad file,, that shouldnt happen.

Man, it sux when it happens to ya. Ya kno, ya always think "nah, not me.." and ya get lazy backin' up.
Truth is, a hard disk IS a hard disk and one day, it'll cr*p out, no matter what machine it's in, MPC, DAW, computer, etc. And that day, ya wish ya'd've backed up yer ish. Classic. Sorry, man!
