Wrong File!! messages

Hello,
Im new to the world of MPC after making music with software for years. I have my MPC 2500 now for two months and everything about it i love, except...
Sometimes when i make a new beat and save it to my sandisk Ultra II (SAVE ENTIRE MEMORY) something goes wrong. For instance when i want to load the file again the next day i get crappy messages about: WRONG FILE!!!
I've lost project files, .wav files and program files. Even Windows XP can not recognise these files (corrupt files).
I never expected to lose music now i am making beats on the MPC.
I feel a little disappointed because of this. Is there a problem with the CF card or does this sound more serious..? I just never know when wich file can not be recognised so ive got to backup everything every evening.

i've been having this problem as well-
there are some threads here about this

lately i've taken to converting things to the computer within the session (ie: not turning off / restarting the mpc) but this puts a stress in workflow that shouldn't be there

can anyone confirm: Does sample-load problem still happen with the JJos?

and, green as i am with it: can one swap the Akai / JJos (back and forth) by doing the typical OS-update procedure?

I'm now trying to eject the disk after saving and before startup, maybe that will work..

I am also having exactly the same question about the jjos to hopefully solve this problem!

Yeh Im having the same problem, Its pretty wack.

I have a Box fresh AKAI MPC2500 with the "AKAI 80Gig HDD" installed from the distributer.

create some sounds, programs, seq's and save to HD.

that is just a bad operating system im afraid. I cant belive they have made it that sloppy. good thing Ive still got my trusty MPC2KXL

Its Os 1.23 (latest) and the only strange thing I have done is move some folders when sync'd to Mac Os. Ive heard the Programs need to have .prg at the end and the file name have to be short. but one of them shows up with dave.prg in mac os and then in the MPC its just "dave" I dont know what to do here but someone somewhere if yo have insight or you are using JJ and its not behaving the same please let us know!

Yep, old territory on here. Just check the 1000 archive.

It is possible this problem is sometimes caused by the CF loosing contact in it's socket. The other problem is the notoriously wack Akai disk formatting routine -- a problem which Akai has never addressed but is well known. The problem was tracked down and corrected by JJ in the early stages of JJ OS1. However, if you do not reformat all drives after installing JJ then you are still trying to save on Akai (wack) formatted disks, so you will still have the same problem.

so in regards to the JJos, ideally one would install as a new OS And reformat both the hard drive and compact flash?

can anyone confirm this rids the botched file issue altogether?

and are Akai / JJ OS's indeed swap-able back and forth?

Yes.

Like I said man, just check the archive. It's all in there. The only people who continued to experience these errors after installing JJ are the people who didn't reformat their drives afterward. We told them what the deal was, they did the reformat and never complained again.

You can reinstall the Akai OS after installing and reformatting with JJ, just don't format anything with the Akai OS. In theory as long as the drive has the JJ format you should not experience the saving bug regardless of which OS the unit is running.

Formatting works with any current version of JJ, but need an unlocked copy of OS1 installed before you can install OS2.
