Buying a 500?

I've got a 2000xl.. But I've spoken a dude with a 500 and seen the device.. I was instantly in love with it because of it's size and the battery's.

I can get one for € 425,- with jackcable, 7 gb of flashes and 128 mb internal..

Should I buy or should I go

i LOVE the 500 man. seriously, sampling on it is fun, collecting the "perfect drumkit" for it is fun, showing it off in front of girls is fun too lol. and you can't beat the portability. some people say that the 500 is weaker than it's older brothers but i'm gonna prove em all wrong man you wait and see lol.

I love my 500 but I will be selling it and upgrading to a 1k or 2500 about a year from now.

i carry my 500 around with me everywhere i go and it's crazy, the other day i went over to my friend's house and i heard a sick ass classical sample on this gir's ipod so i plugged the ipod into my 500, chopped it and put drums on it right then and there man the mpc is a beautiful thing. let's see u pull out a 2500 outta nowhere and do that lol.

definitely man, i had the 2000xl and got the 500. i sold the 2000 caus i transfered all the sounds to my 500, plus i use a computer (cubase) as my main sequencer. but using the 500 alone as a sequencer is awesome. keep the 2000xl, and get the 500 definitely. its a different experience since it doesnt hav the same screen, and more importantly its truly portable with batteries and its tiny compared to the rest.
the workflow is definitely faster with the other mpcs with bigger screens, but just imagine doing beats anywhere with the 500, watching tv on a couch with it on ur lap, laying on bed when getting ready to go to sleep, even outside anywhere, etc etc.
its a different experience man, and it doesnt cost much. and once u make ur first good beat on it, your gonna love it. buy it

I moved from Reason + Recycle to an MPC 500. I wanted a hardware sampler to try out ideas on the fly while listening to vinyl. I do most of my work on the 500 now. You'll need a day or two to warm up to, but once you do -- it's lovely.

The last OS update was very welcome as well. Less buggy; more filtering options.

I don't care about the lack of an on screen waveform editor. I like editing by numbers . . .

Yeah, agreed, it's brilliant.. I like editing and chopping by ear too.

Great sound quality also.. It's nowhere near as clean as an MPC4000, but it's dirty and I much prefer that sound! Once you get a track going, it sounds killer with a great frequency response. I can never get tracks sound as nice on the computer, whatever the program. They always sound muffled. But the 500, there's just more dynamic range.. hard to describe.

I like to turn off the computer while I'm using it at home too.. Computers are just too much of a distraction, like right now typing this..

The 500 is awesome, all except for song mode. I hate song mode, even though i can use it sometimes, i get pissed when EVERYTHING on all the seq's has to be the same. so i just use a software program as a sequencer instead of the 500. i cant compare the workflow, screen size, etc. of the 500 to any other mpc cuz i've never used another mpc, but from just using a 500, it's awesome.

the portability of the 500 is great too. i take it to friends' house, the lake, outside, etc. get inspiration from different places is different than just sittin in ur room or studio tryin to make up ideas for beats...

I would keep the 2000xl or cop a 1000. The 500 is cute but cannot compete with a 1000 with the JJOS. With the exception of the batteries it is just as portable.

The 500 can be all you need. Depents on what ur into. Just realize that chopping takes more time and energy on the 500. Plus ur missing 4 pads and extra outputs. But you'll get portability in return.

425 euro sounds like a good price to me. But be sure the mp is still in a good condition. Try to lower the price to 400 euro's. And if that 500 looks quite old, don't pay more then 375.

Sold mine 500 for 300 euro's, without any extra's or upgrade's. I bought it new for 600euro's and used it for 5 months before selling it.

maybe in the near futher I'll buy one.. for now spending the money on hiphop kemp at tsjechia

hi people ! im thinking about it if i should buy a mpc 500! are 12 pads good!? cause i dont know i would prefer 16 pads(but the 1k is too expensive)
