Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hi All,

Haven't been on here for a while but have finally got my little studio back up and have bought a Saffire LE. I want to hook up my 2kXL using the SPDIF out to the LE but can't get it to work. Have got audio into my iMac using the normal stereo out and the individual 8 outs but nothing from the SPDIF. I'm using a standard 1/4 jack to RCA mono lead to connect the 2, the LE has mains power and the SPDIF light is on but no signal is showing up in the SE control software.

Do I have to set anthing up in the MPC to get the SPDIF to work? I couldn't see anything in the mixer menu's.

Anyway, thanks in advance,

GeoffShoulders

FAQs

Q: How do you select different sample rates?
A: Simply press the S/RATE button in SaffireControl and a smaller window opens up where the sample rate can be selected simply by clicking on the desired value. From this window, the Saffire can also be made to synchronise from an external source connected to the SPDIF In.

I would use a dedicated Spidf coax cable in first place.
That's the way my 2xl is connected to my mbox. It works fine.

Thanks both,

Can't get the LE to pick up the SPDIF sync from the MPC. the light is on on the LE to say it has an SPDIF signal but no audio coming thru. Do I have to set up the sync on the MPC in anyway?

Cheers,

OHHHHHHHH, ok, ok.

I should have asked this in the first place.

G, u have the 8out board? If no, then you do not have spdif capability in your 2kxl.

See the 8out board on the bottom right, the red/white connectors? They are SPDIF for the 2k/2kxl.
the connector TYPE and physical looking cable is the same as RCA, BUT, the "spdif coax cable"
is created to different specs.

But yeah, some people still go ahead and use regular ole rca cables on it anyway.

Hmm. Have just checked some IB-M208P photo's and they all have the SPDIF out as an RCA but mine is a 1/4 jack. Anyone else have a 1/4 jack SPDIF out or have I just got some dodgy expansion board?

Mine's got the RCA jacks but i've heard that the dig. ins/out vary depending by the manufacturer your 8 output board is from.
are you sure the dig. in/outs are 1/4 jacks?

Supposed to be rca looking connector. I've never seen a 1/4 jack for spdif on that board. Never.

Open up your mpc and check out the board.

The real spdif is ON the board itself. It's part of the board along with the other 8 outs. 1 big peice of board.

I'd open it up and check it out.

Hmmm? A lot of people on the forums do have mutec boards (mine is from yamaha)
But 1/4 jacks in context with dig. in/outs are new to me, never saw that before as well.
I would rename or start another thread regarding the dig. in/outs before instantly selling the 8 outboard.

Thanks,

Have just spoken to Akai & Focusrite and none of them have ever heard of SPDIF on a 1/4 jack either. I can't be the only person in the world with this weird card ;-)

Think I'll pick up another card with RCA out to make life easier.

Are those 1/4 ports connected to the 8out board?

That's not normal. Maybe someone just pt those ports in there just to fillup the holes
it may not even be connected to the 8out board itself, u gotta open it up to see.

Every coax spdif I've seen on any gear has always been the rca connector type.

Even Wikipedia says so, lol.

Lamp,

Have opened it up and they're connected alright. Just like the 8 outs are.

The really frustraing part is that the Saffire says it has a SPDIF signal that it can't sync to. I'm thinking that as the Saffire is new and Focusrite say they don't recognize 1/4 jack as a valid SPDIF connection that it's not set up to work with older 1/4 jack SPDIF connections (have found a Google article saying that 1/4 jacks used ot be used for SPDIF).

Looks like a new board for me..........

Speechless man, I don't know what to tell you short of finding another board, or just be happy using
the regular stereo outs or tracking out via the normal 8outs...

Think I'll get another board. Bought the Safffire becasue it haad the SPDIF so I cold use with my MPC and leave the other analogue in's free for other gear! oh well.......
