Hard drive, and saving questions

I have some questions that I would appreciate some feed back on. I find that when I have created a program (assigned samples to pads and called it something like "program 1) then when I turn the MPC back on and try to reload the program, the samples don't load back on properly or the parameters have all changed such as volumes pans, etc. I would like to buy a harddrive for the MPC so that I don't have certain problems associated with "not enough memory" when trying to convert long patch phrases and stuff. Also I am going to include a computer with audio interface so that my computer stores the samples and then the MPC can access them? via usb. Is this possible, and if so could someone tell me how it actually is done. I'd be using Logic, but am not sure how to go about this. Right now I leave my MPC on 24 hours a day, because I'm afraid that when I turn it off I won't be able to load it up the same way..

Please help!

Once you make changes to program parameters you have to save them, MPC cannot access samples from comp, only transfer as back-up or dump.

I could understand why you would want a large hard drive if the machine was giving you a message saying "not enough drive space" but why do you think this would help when the machine is telling you "not enough memory"?

You might want to read Pg. 14 of the 1000 PDF manual. Don't forget to read the rest of it too... It's very important.

alright, thanks for all tips so far. I have in fact read the manual front to back several times, and this issue seems to be my main problem right now. I'm still confused.

Pg. 14 playing back a sequence?? How does this relate?

Ok heres 2 ways to solve all your problems.

1. If your running out of memory you will need the RAM upgrade not the Hard drive
2. When you are done with a beat, create a new folder and SAVE ENTIRE. everything will be the way it was when you load that folder back up.

Sorry, that's the PDF manual. It's a ten page difference between that and the paper version (dumb, but not my idea)

O.k. Now just a couple of questions, and I really appreciate the help.

1. How exactly do I create a new folder, and do I do this as I'm saving the sequence?

2. When you say "save entire" the options that come up when I press "save" are

save entire memory
save all sequences and songs
save a sequence
save all programs and samples
save a program
save a sample

so I'm not sure which one to go with

3. Lastly, do I save to memory card or internal?

when you go to the save option scroll over the memory card. it will give you the option to create a new folder. Create it and name it accordingly, then use the save entire memory option. This way when you load it it will be exactly how you left it. All you have to do is press play.

oh and save to the card.

thanks, I tried that and it seemed to work although I dare not turn off the MPC. i'm stupid I know.. Now can I save my sequences in the autoload folder, or just in their own folder and what's the difference?

****, o.k. Now when I go to load up the sequence from the folder that I've saved it in, on the memory card, it says "DO IT" will clear entire memory. What gives?

You can only have one project in memory at a time so it's always cleared when a new one is loaded, even if nothing was loaded before it.

so that doesn't mean that the actually entire memory will be erased right?

I'm not sure if you or I know what you mean by "entire memory". If you mean the project/sample workspace in RAM then yes.
