respect to those who can use their 60 as a stand alone... or to a great extand...

man... i got my 60 thinking i can fuk with it... i had a 2k classic (it broke on me) and a 2000XL (got stolen)... and loved them...

but the 60... hell no... the mono sampling, no filters, the 4.5 sec chops, just the over all machine is not for everyone...

if u rocking it... props... its not easy!!!

guess ill throw mine on ebay... or if ur interested... get at me... i just picked it up from forat... brand new screen, all button sensors have been replaced... fresh of the wood work...

I think the 60 with 26 sec sampling is great! the think i really like is the groove (the timming correcting is crazy! i still make beat with it!
I just get a s950 and its sounds crazy! the filter, the sampling rate and the 2.25 Mo is good for it!

And now i can have this combo "Groove/Dirty sound" with both...CRAZY!

you're definitely right that the 60 is not for everyone but to tell the truth, the 60 with the 3.10e 3k OS upgrade is a whole new machine... expanded memory and scsi really helps also... but the strength of the 60 imo is in its ability to integrate well with other equipment, namely other samplers... the 60 is definitely a midi workhorse and although it is usable and enjoyably capable as a standalone all in one piece, it is seriously better utilized as the head piece controlling multiple other samplers... it has 4 midi outs and 2 ins for a reason... midi is your friend...

Yeah if your just using a MPC60 with no expanded memory and no 3.10 OS then what's the point you jsut using it for breaks than mostly you can't do anything with a MPC60 really until you get 3.10 OS you can't judge that machine if you ain't got 3.10 OS.

This is what I keep telling people about vintage gear. Don't lust for it just because of it's cult status. I've used the MPC-60, and I like it, but even with the 3.1e upgrade, it's still limited. Your better off getting a 3000 with an S-900/950 if you want (a)more sampling time, and (b)the sound of the mpc-60. I would only buy older drum machines if you just really want to own one, but you can't expect new skool features to be included in ol skool products, (even tho 32megs of ram, folder support, and multiple filters ain't hardly 'new skool!' haha)
Clown on me for this statement, but I'd take an MPC2000XL (with 32megs & CF drive) over the 60/3000, but I can't front, the 60/3000 look way doper than any other new skool drum-machine.

I've been using the 60II standalone with 3.10 and the mem upgrade for a minute and I love it. I was very close to selling it for a smaller mpc to accommodate a dorm room, but I had to end the auction cuz the 60 is too nice!

I think you should stick with it, It will refine you sample game. Sampling more than 4 bar is unnecessary. Respect the 60 Baby!

Sample, Truncate, Sequence........... Flip one MPC, flip them alll.

glad to see your gettin the hang of that thing robbinson... sounds like your gettin more use out of it than i was over here... whats the benefit of OS 2.1 besides SCSI capabilities?!?! did you come up on an IB-109 SCSI board?

Na not yet - I'm really looking into it further, The best thing really to me was the major upgrade to the sampling time. Instead of 105 seconds it will have almost 2.5mins of time to record. It aswell can be modified to sample in both 16 and 12 bit rates. Not making any adjustments just yet. I'm really just getting to know the S950.
But in all - The machine is a motherbrain for MIDI Prod.

It can do everything.

unless im REALLY sleeping, OS version 2.1 will have no effect on your memory... you have fully upgraded memory already... what does it say upon bootup, does it say "1536Kwords installed" if not you need to open that thing up and reseat those memory expansion boards...

but yea, the only new functions that i remember OS version 2 introducing were SCSI capabilities... maybe im wrong...
