using the pads for drums while I sequence an external synth?

...this must be an easy fix and I'm just missing something and the search function isn't getting me any closer to the answer.

I have a moog that I sequenced with my MPC. I recorded a little melody on the first track and now I'm trying to add some drum tracks to it with the pads. I switched to a different track and loaded up one of my drum pad programs and it pops up as usual and I'm able to play the pads with the drum sounds. The problem is when I try and hit play to listen to my sequence so I can audition drum sounds over it, the MPC wants to play my synth melody AND the drum pad it maps to at the same time so every note of my melody triggers a different pad. Is there a way I can turn off the drum pad for certain tracks? I toyed around with the MIDI window a bit and the only thing that works is turning off the pad sounds but then I don't get to play the drum parts I want....any suggestions?

Don't assign a program to the MIDI track.

So as I understand, you have a midi track sending notes to the Moog and a second track playing samples in the MPC?

If that's correct, make sure that the program field in the midi track is set to OFF or a blank program with no samples. There is no other reason that should be happening, unless the midi track's notes are being looped back via midi and triggering the active track.

...and your absolutely right about the fix. Once I turned the program "off" for that track, it worked like a charm. Thanks for the tip! I saw that a zillion times and kept thinking I had some MIDI preference set up wrong. Thanks for the help! Now I feel a little less like a moron....now back to finishing reading that "beat making for the MPC" PDF...
