yo - midi settings dont "stay" so to speak?

i slaved the mpc to my 16 track......powered 'em both down and then back up - the midi settings defaulted back to what they were before on the mpc.....is that normal or did i just skip a step or something?

not sure but maybe u have to save your midi sttings in a program, then you can"re-find" them when you turn your MPC on......

the midi setting should recall themselves when the corresponding data is recalled for use. (bulk dump?)

im new to midi........all im trying to use it for now is multi-tracking........tracking the beat out on a hard disk recorder

i read some threads up here and followed the instructions as far as sycncing everything up and it seems to work - i haven't actually tracked stuff out yet

is the sync basically just so that u start each track at the same "time" so that they all run concurrently on the multi.tracker just as they did on the mpc?

so when i go to track each sound out i kno i track mute the other tracks and record one track at a time - i have the mpc slaved - all i have to do is queue up the 16 track to record and once i hit record on it the mpc will start playing and im recording it on the track machine right?

then i go back and do it again for each track the same way

based on what i've read up here i think thas what im 'posed to be doing.....i dont have the eight outs so i have to do it one track at a time......

just give it a try man, it will work. I can't give specific info, cause it's different for each multitracker.

word @ieism: Go step by step and try it out for yourself, this whole midi/recording thing seems very complicated if you try to grasp it all in one go so go step by step and you will learn quickly. A good source for general info on midi is www.tweakheadz.com (I am in no way whatsoever affiliated with tweakheadz I just found some good midi info on that site)

i was so mistified by midi......i've bought books - printed and read mad articles from the web..........i was getting into the midi packets of data and everything..........then i read something in the newbie bible the other day that was a really good analogy.........the whole "midi is like remote control for your gear" thing - and it sort of clicked...........i actually tracked my beat out last night...........man i wouldnt have imagined that it was that easy.

i cant wait to do more with midi..........thanks alot guys

i slaved mpc recorded the tracks and everything......anyone care to explain or hypothesize as to why only the stop and play buttons work from the hard disk recorder to the mpc but not the other functions on the hard disk recorder like fwd & rewind?

Timecode like MTC or midi clock will only tell your mpc the location of the track. My guess is that the mpc can only figure out where in the track the HDrecoder is when playing back, and not while fastforwarding. Maybe it's too slow, or maybe there's no timecode being send at all.

Anyway, if your harddiskrecorder supports it, you can enable MMC (midi machine control). The 2000xl can be set to recieve MMC in the sync screen (shift-9). This should sort out all transport control problems.
