Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hello again. This is a sorry tale.

Posted last week about trying to get my 2KXL to send SPDIF to my new Focusrite Saffire LE card. My 8 out card had 1/4 jack SPDIF outs and I had no luck getting them to work. Lots of people (inc. Akai & Focusrite) suggested that the MPC card should have RCA SPDIF outs so I bought a new card.

It still doesn't work!! ARGH.

Both MPC cards will record in as digital from the Saffire but the Saffire doesn't recognise digital in's from either MPC card (RCA or 1/4 jack). I'm off to cry................

Does anyone have any experience with a 2kxl and a Saffire card?

Is the saffire set to receive at the correct digital sample rate? MPC SPDIF in/out is @ 48khz.
And what about the software that the saffire is connected to in the computer? 48khz also?

Hi again Lamp.

Saffire software is set @ 48k so all should be OK.

The frustrating thing is that I can record the SPDIF out from Ableton via the Saffire into the MPC, and the SPDIF light on the front of the Saffire is on saying there is an SPDIF signal but it won't show any audio levels in the software.

I don't know anyone else with any audio gear so can't check if it's the MPC out or the Saffire. I did loop a lead out of the Saffire SPDIF out into the Saffire SPDIF in and it was fine so I'm assuming it's an MPC issue, but as both my 8 out cards work on SPDIF in maybe not.

I don't know what else to tell you except what you said, if you knew someone else with gear you could trouble shoot but you say you can't even do that.

Really? Oh no. That's not good.

Have found someone locally on a forum with a PC SPDIF put card so I'm going to check that out and make sure it's not my Saffire. If the Saffire is Ok I'm even considering selling the 2KXL and getting a 1000 coz I really need that SPDIF to free up the analogue inputs.

1k has 4 analog outs.

6 total IF you hard pan the main outs left and right.

Same here: SPDIF in - yes, SPDIF out - no

Thanks Lamp. Might be the way I have to go then.

Before you go that route, ask n the 1k forums if anyone uses their digi in AND digi outs on a regular basis.
Maybe someone else has a Saffire.

Me, same as you, love my optical digi outs on my triton and use them all the time, I barely even remember the last time I've used the indy analog outs or main outs.

Lamp,

Yeah - will post in the 1k forum now. If only I hadn't decided to change to a firewire/ digitial i/O card ;-)

ill test both the 2000xl and 1000 tonight, using the spdif in/outs on an Edirol UA-1EX USB..

will post the results.

this is a guess, but shouldnt the sound source be set to send at 44.1khz spdif? as that is the highest rate the mpc can sample at.
