mpc noob

Hello guys!

I'm fairly new to the music scene. I'm looking for a cheaper MPC for beginners to start my beat making. Programs that I will be running is Fl XXL edition and reason 3.0. I was looking at the XR20? any thoughts? also mpcs can directly hook up to ur pc right? also can u dl samples to put on ur mpc?

XR20 is cool but its only a drum machine.... My opinion. Waste of money.

If your in that price range you might aswell buy a MPC500 on ebay or buy a refurbished MPC500 from Akai.


Or go with a MPK49 but remember this is a MIDI controller and it has no internal sounds. And can only be used with a PC.

Do your research heavily so you dont end up buying something you do not need. Do not rush the purchase and just read about the product.

Ex, is spot on...... I have done alot of reading on the XR20 and also watched the demo vid quite a few times... I think is is below entry level for a serious "producer". I think it is perfect for someone who is trying to get an idea of what beatmaking is about. It has built in sounds that can be modified to the users liking, but that is about it. Eventually you will want to be able to do more.

The MPC 500 is a perfect entry level machine IMHO. The price makes it very interesting. And it has alot of the functions of the bigger machines. The MPK49 is also a very interesting piece as well, but as stated, it does not have built in sounds, so it will def need more devices/software to get you going.


I would def recommend the MPC 500 or the 1000.

ya I was really looking at the mpc500 and it def. looks like a better machine than the xr20. def. worth the extra money. now I just need to do a little more research and find it for a good price. so far the cheapest ive seen the 500 go for is $420 on ebay. not bad
