Some Newb Questions

Hi, I’ve just bought an MPC2000xl and I’ve got a few newbie questions.

Can anyone suggest a good sample editor?

When sampling from CD, Is there any other way to do it than sampling directly into the MPC’s inputs. I’d like to just play the CD inside my PC and sample it there to keep it in the digital domain until the last possible moment. Is there a software program that will allow me to cut out samples from a CD, and save it as a wav file?

I’d like to use my old Pentium 2 PC as a hard disk recorder (as I only have two outputs on my MPC, and I have a few bits of outboard to put it through). Can anyone suggest a program that I can sync to the MPC and record audio into. It has to be something that can run on an old PC. Also, will I need to buy any hardware to sync the MPC to the PC?

I eventually want to post some of my music on the net. How do I turn my recordings into mp3s.

soundforge or recycle for editting
and cubase or nuendo for recording

get older versions to make sure that u get no problems with the cpu

and no u dont need extra hardware if ur sound card has midi in/out if not u can get those usb to midi converters and get midi unless u dont have usb ports then ur gonna have to get usb ports.

You are probably going to have to upgrade your PC to run some good Edit programs.
There are plenty out there, but most of them need at least a 400 MHz processor, like Sound Forge or Cool Edit Pro.
You should be able to mix down to MP3 with that, Sound Forge is only a Two track edit program.
If you want to Multi track everything, you may need Vegas Pro, Cubase, or Protools something like that.
