can this be explained like "X" for multiplication and use symbols that can be used to calculate using a calculator... ??? I think we all would be able to get a general idea if it was explained in a more simple term. thanks in advance and that was a great method to use. This forum is very helpful and makes things very easy.

It's simple really.

You know that the mpc have a sample rate at 44100 samples per second.
What's showed in trimmode is the numbers of samples that a wavefile contains.

Now, if we divide the number of samples that we have in the wavefile with the samplerate we get this:

Example: We have a wavefile that contains 660000 samples

660000samples/44100Hz = 14.9659863946sec

This new number tell us how many seconds the sample is.

Now when we know that, we would want to know how many times this sample can be played at one second.

Therefore we use the rule about reciprocal, which is simple:

1/14.9659863946sec = 0.06681818181 times

This new number tells us how many times the wavefile can be played at one second, and because the wavefile is longer than a second the number seems small.

Now we want to know how many times the wavefile can be played on one minute, which is easy:

0.06681818181*60 sec = 4.0090909 times

The new number tells us how many times the wavefile can be played at one minute

The last thing we want to know is the Bpm, and i have counted 32 beats in my loop. It goes like this:

4.0090909*32 = 128.29088 Bpm, or for the MPC 128.3 Bpm.

There you go. Hope you all get it ;-)

i don't see what your problem is, ain't nothing wrong with accuracy. it's better than jus droppin a sample into software and having it worked for you, not a dig at software heads.

Yeah, I never understood using math to find out the tempo. Using either software or hardware, you can set start/end points and play with the tempo until it loops right. I can't tell the exact tempo using only my big ears, but I can get pretty close.

Not trying to knock anyone who uses ^^, but that seems like how a non-beatmaker would go about finding tempo.

It doesn't matter if you find the tempo or if the machine does, but this is the most tight way to go (for a nerd) ;-)
