Hey, I'm facing two problems right now and would like to know if anyone knows a workaround

1. When I try to import an audio file I have in my harddrive into a HD track the mpc freezes.
The track I'm trying to import is 44MB.

This is what I do. Mode ------ HD RECORD

Add Audio Track
Do It
TK VIEW
Select Edit on track 1
Press EDIT
Scroll until I reach IMPORT TRACK
press DO IT
select the file I want to import
FREEEEZES!!!!

The other problem I'm Facing is that when I set up all my sequences and programs, when I press save all memory, or save all sequences & songs, for some reason the mpc alters two of my sequences making them go bezzerk. When I load everything again, they're wack!

but if I load them one at a time they're ok

Anyone know???

Welcome to the world of the MPC 5000.... The Artic life

Nah, seriously, this is where it goes extremely slow the most... thats why its not good to use the HD mode just yet for live purposes... Its and issue I had to break down to Akai to understand... so they are supposed to be working on the communication of speeding up the Harddrive to the processor or something like that. Most MPC 5000 Freezing for me and others is when you are working with the the HardDrive Directly instead of just the RAM alone.

Well, guess we'll have to wait. Do you know what might be happening with the other issue I'm experiencing?
thanx!

What file format is the file you're importing? It should be a 16Bit, 44.1kHz WAV file. Also keep in mind that thhere are several types of WAV files (different byte orders). Try opening the file in Audacity (a free audio editor form PC and Mac) and re-exporting it as a WAV file (even if it looks like its already the right format).

While I haven't had any problems importing on the 5k, I have run into situations (on more than one occastion) where a seemingly correct file/sample just won't load. Resaving the files, or opening them and re-expoeting them in Audacity has resolved this in the past.

You should also be able to import 24 bit files (44k however). HD mode is capable of handling those.

I am wondering if you are importing a stereo file to just track 1, that probably won't fly. Stereo files must be imported to 2 tracks. The 5000 knows to split the stereo file as such.

yea, the import works way faster now... and you can import other files in HD mode, and they move faster... they did better with the saving and loading in the New OS update.

Ok, in the studio the possibility to record 8 audio tracks on to your sequence is great. But how else could I use the HD playback options for a live gig. I ask because I come from an MPC2000xl background and I am used to programing the MPC with short samples in the programs and sequencing everything. Now that I have HD playback I'm like uhhhh, what do I do with it now?
Any ideas of how I might be able to use it live?

I use the 5000 live with hd tracks in a duo. I can have real sax or horns tracks, background vocals, additional guitar parts....I guess even real drums. Only thing I don't like is your limited to 20 songs. So, I just have to load up the next set of 20 after we're finished with the first set.

I have a thought though where I can have like 5 sequences in a song, each of which is it's own song with HD tracks. I just make a space between the sequences and press and stop and then play to start the next song...er sequence. :?

Is there a way to modify the sequences (muting tracks, tc) live while playing in song mode.?
cheers
