the rm1x,aint got anything on a 4k or any mpc,if ya like the rm1x ya will love a mpc!

One thing is that on the 4k you put record on and off in real time.
I had the rm1x for two days and was REALLY disappointed because of that - it made it impossible to use it live. +
just about a million more things :-)

One thing that the RM1X does, that the MPC series doesn't is that the RM1X can
have different tracklengths per track, so you can have on track 1, the bd sample
that is a 1 bar, and synth track on track 2, that is 16 bars. On the MPC, you
would need to copy track1, so that it is 16 bars as well.
From my understanding a detailed proposal was sent to Akai from a user, that
details exactly how this could be implemented on the MPC 4000, and offer
to do it for free by the same user.
Don't know if it will be implemented or not, but is something that I would greatly like.
It's not going to stop my impending purchase of a 4k, but would definitely help complete
some of my wishes for the machine. Obviously Akia is most likely going to fix the
FX issues and missing advertised feature of auditioning samples, but I do hope
after those have been addressed, they look at this seriously, or give Robert the chance
to implement it for them.

From where did you hear of this?
I'd sure love to have one track looping 5 bars and one track looping 4 - great for polyrhythmic stuff :-)

The Yamaha is a pattern step sequencer with 16 steps and has 'easy' programmming while an MPC is made for getting a realistic feel in your drums with touch sensitive pads.

Sorry for the delay in response, been VERY busy at work.
Ikke: I'm not EVEN trying to compare the RM1X to the MPC-4000 in regards to features.
Trust me. The RM1X is definitely more then a 16 step pattern sequencer, it can actually
handle 110,000 notes, but it is NOT an MPC-4000! What I was trying to indicate is that a feature that the RM1X's sequencer
has that the MPC-4000's sequencer doesn't have is the Seperate Track Length per feature.
This limitation is not going to stop my impending purchase of a MPC-4000 in 2 weeks, but
is something that I would like to see in the MPC-4000's OS. I can buy if RM1X for $200-$250
if I absolutely need this feature, but if it was on the MPC-4000 it would make the 4000 that much
MORE powerful and creative, as Pixel pointed out for Polyrhythmic type of programming or
as well as making every sequence a seperate length , so it literally takes FOR EVER to repeat itself, even though the longest sequence might be 16 or 32 bars.
Also, this is useful, let's say that you have 1 long sample or a recylced loop that is
pretty long, or a vocal part that is a minute long. With the current setup of the MPC-4000
(feel free to tell me if I'm wrong, as I'm basing this all of previous MPC uses and reading the
MPC-4000 manual), you have to have all of your other sequences as long as the longest
sequence. So if you have sequence that is 7 bars(track 1), then other is 9(track 2), another is 11(track 3) and the last
64 (track 4). The lowest common denominator for these is quite high. So things will not loop correctly unless you make all of these sequence lengths to that lowest common denominator. Robert actually explains it MUCH better then me in his proposal:
"The result of this is that each track can be seen as a (polyphonic) MIDI looper, where a 4 bar loop can play a beat, a 12 bar loop plays a melody, and for an freaky touch, you can add a 17 bar loop that strums a guitar chord somewhere in that track. All of this in the same sequence. A loop will not wait for the other loops, it seamlessly restarts without waiting for the sequence to reach its end. All in all a very, very powerful feature with endless possibilities. I'm using it all the time.

I have the RM1X and its a very smart sequencer, with the onboard effects and the sounds are pretty good. The drum sounds are limited, that's why I use the sampled drums on the mpc4000, but they make a really good combo if slaved to the MPC4000.
