but i dont see how just hitting a pad in track mutes can select the track to make it the active one? surely it just unmutes/mutes it.
maybe i didn't explain it good. what i'm proposing is something new that JJ will have to add to the track mute page (i'm just modifying your proposal a bit).
what i'm saying is there will be 1 new tab at the bottom (lets call it MUTELOCK).
by default it is inactive, and the track mute page functions as normal (hit a pad to mute/unmute).
now, when you activate the MUTELOCK tab, suddenly the page has a new function:
all of your mutes stay as you have them, but now when you hit a pad it makes it the active track.
so it gets the solid border and the number in the upper left shows it as the active track, but it's MUTE status DOES NOT CHANGE when you hit it (it's locked).
so while in this mode, you can bop around & hit pads and each time you do you will make that track you just hit the active track.
now when you want to go and mute/unmute stuff again, you deactivate the MUTELOCK tab at the bottom, and now you are back to the old behavior (hit a pad to mute/unmute tracks).
example: let's say track 1 is currently active & you want to make track 8 active.
the way you proposed you would have to hit the "+" tab 7 times to get to track 8.
the way i propose you would just hit the MUTELOCK tab (if it's not already active) & then hit pad 8.
make sense? just a quicker way to get from point a to b.
maybe "MUTELOCK" is a bad term. maybe it could be called "ACTIVE" mode or something.
