Is there a way to get my already chopped-up sounds from recycle to the mpc60? I have a usb-floppy-drive and a mac. what do i need?

whats with the 12bit deal? when i chop or edit samples with a software, convert them to snd-files and load them to the mpc? Is only the recording or the playback 12bit?

Sample them straight from ur mac in ur mpc? Ever thought about actually using the converters you bought?

Questions like this really make me wonder if i was right with the first thing i wrote, do a little research man...

I worked with the mpc2500 for years now...

so i'm not a fanboy and just buy equipment with a certain fame.
i searched for a certain sound and found it with the mpc60.....

i was just wondering if it is possible because i have over a thousand rex-files with more then 10 chops.... so it would be 10.000 recording i'd have to do...

i really hate this... "oh you are asking a question about somthing we already knew for years..."
this is a forum.... so i ask questions.... you maybe give me certain answers.... if not, i have to do some research! this is internet... get infos as fast as you can :)

and i was asking this 12bit question because i made some research on this forum and i got like 10 different versions

if you know it, write it down... or not... but don't be a smart ass

oh man... sorry for the smart ass :) ...but i really hate this attitude

As much as i hate the attitude of people who think other people on a forum are only there to do their guessing work...? really man read the manual lol. Most not ll questions you asked the last couple of days are to find in there.... im not trying to be an **** but you should wake up, get some coffee and read the manual of the machine you bought.

Edit: even the question about the 12bit is in there ???

that was not my question.

i am wondering about what will happen to my rex-files. is there a way to make them compatible. they are recorded in 16bit. can i convert them to snd-files and will the mpc60 play them

Ok,

You can not convert your rex files to .snd and simply put them on a floppy thru your mac.... you need MPC editor for it and that doesnt work on Mac as far as i know... aslo keep in mind you need DD floppys and not HD ones cuz your MPC wont eat them. So basicly you are left with the first option i gave you.... sample that shit *****.... you bought a sampler didnt you ???

As for the 12 bit question.... read the manual really, i cant be bothered to spend my time typing that out for you, sorry.

Edit: Do not forget your working on a machine that works with a 8086 chip for processing.... its 20 years old... things are different.

thank you...

i read the manual. it says that the mpc60 records in 16bit and compresses to 12bit.
now.. my new question :)
will it compress the audio right after the recording or will it compress the audio when you load it to the ram?
so... is it possible to playback 16bit recorded, to snd-converted wav-files?

EDIT: It says "12-bit non-linear storage format"... so it seems that it will compress it right after the recording. correct me if i'm wrong

No you are right it compresses right after the recording, i always wondered if there was a way to go around that and make it a 16bit sampler :P

If you are on Mac i really know no way to make MPC 60 compatible disks but since i dont even use a computer for making music im probally not up to date :D

Google for MPC editor maybe it can get you on your way, but by any means keep formatting your floppys in the mpc itself.... MPC editor ended up formatting my HD full of samples.... hmm maybe that why i dont use a computer anymore :P

CONCLUSION (after some more researching):

It is possible to get your rex-files from a Mac to the MPC60:

- export .rex to wave
- use MpcPgmMaker to convert wave to mpc-snd
- save them to disk

Saving to disc is the biggest problem: a Mac can't read DD-discs since OS X. But it should be possible with SCSI-hardware or just use a windows-machine (i don't know whether parallels will do the job, but bootcamp should)

MpcPgmMaker is capable of reading and creating MPC3000-PGMs and converting wav-files to mpc-snd or mpc-snd to wav or aiff

In order to transfer sounds from a PC/Mac to the 60 you need to get the floppy formatted in that machine. However, the 60 won't read any floppy formatted not to it. And that's straight. Furthermore, you need 12bit .snd files for which I ain't got a clue where you can get them outside, again, from your 60. Finally, most of your .rex files won't even load on the machine cause they will definetely be more than 1,5MB. Have you ever thought about that? Now, go sample those sounds. Cause you didn't bought only the D/A capabilities of the 60, but also the legendary A/D.

All of this is not true. Your Rex files need to be converted to WAV. files and then use MPCPGMMaker and use convert to 3000 SND. and it will convert them on their own so when you first load up the Floppy into the 60 it's gonna take awhile cause it's gonna take your 16 bit WAV files and compress them to 12 Bit 40khz files so be prepared to wait alittle. You can still have your chops and drums loaded into the MPC but you will be maxed out on ram unless you have the expansion.
