I was making a beat, and left the mpc2000xl on along with my keyboard
for a few days, went back to it and the first bar was gone. when I
press play, it's silent for the first bar, and resumes playing like normal
on the second bar. I know for a fact the first bar is there because
It worked at first, then suddenly it vanished. Has this happened to
anybody? suggestions? I tried new midi cables and connections.

That is in my opinion a reicpe for disaster (aka burntout screen and other nastiness...). If you have a sequence you like and you don't work on it for some time just save it and turn of your MPC.
