Clearing my MPC

Hey all,


I'm in the mood to reset my MPC and re-install OS 2.11. My question is, if I go and re-initialize, will I have to remove my HD? And will the internal sounds from Akai reappear?

are you not using jj? i think its a bad move to stick with that akai OS.

Before doing anything do a quick back up on to your comp just to be safe. whats the reason for choosing that os?

Naw guys, I ain't flippin. When I do maintenance on my Macs, I reinstall everything (after backup) It sometimes give my machine a boost on speed. I'm just looking to kind of reset the memory. Then install my OS'. I asked so I don't have to unwitingley do it and say OPPs! afterward. Was just wondering if anyone had issues with this method and did everything turn out OK.

I don't know.. these types of things make me nervous because it can cause more harm than good...

I say, if you really want to do it, then do it... otherwise, if it were me, I'd apply the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" methodology.

The reset should be performed after the install, not before. This will clear away any performance degrading issues caused by the install process and previously saved parameters.

But if you're into improving performance the first thing to do is forget about Akai company software.... eewwww

You won't experience PC rot like you do on Windows/Mac. The MPC isn't doing anything with a scratch file, saving temporary files or anything else.

If you're just looking to do some spring cleaning (well summer cleaning) on your hard drive, back it up to your pc, format it with JJOS (whichever version you have installed) and then copy the files you want back. This is still a lot of effort for likely zero gain though.

Still, sounds like a lot of work to me. Personally I'd just delete the files/projects/samples you're tired of and be done with it. Reverting to an older firmware like the Akai OS and then reinstalling JJOS is going to be more work and hassle with absolutely no benefit. Remember, the PC in MPC doesn't stand for Personal Computer, so don't treat it as such!
