Is this thing as crippled as people say?

From the negative posts on here, I can't tell if the 500 is incapable of creating worthwhile material, or if it's just a matter of convenience? As I'm just starting out, I'll learn to love anything, but if this thing just isn't able to produce results period... So is the negative hype true? I know the pads aren't the greatest, and i'm sure the bigger MPC's are "better" but is the 500 really a waste of time?

Sorry if I'm hurting your feelings or anything, but it is usually depends on the machine's operator whether results will be good or not. In this case it's most probably will depend on you, man. Not MPC 500 or 5000. The machine won't be making beats for you. So, what you can do is: a) learn how to operate it well; b) learn some production techniques; c) don't be arrogant and always learn some more, when you already know something.

If you are skilled, then you can do the same on this unit as on the bigger models.
After the last bugfix this unit is stable as quenched steel!!!

Now they (Akai) just need to clean up the mess they made in the OS (being able to save filter states and so on).

But i can only reccoment it!!!

The 500 is solid.

Not at all, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. I'm willing to put in the work if the possibilities are there.

I love mine and have no urged to 'upgrade' any time soon.

I think you may want to hit the music store and try them both out before deciding. Theres tons of split opinions. I personally dislike the 500. The pads, tiny screen, lack of multiple outs and overall feel of it make it a waste (imo). Also the fact that there is no alternative OS for it is pretty much a deal breaker. And dont forget that you can get a used 1000 for about the same price of a 500. Bottom line dont use the forum as your only source of research. Youll thank yourself later.

As public enemy once said..."Don't believe the hype" I'd beat battle any one with a bigger mpc any day! As with any musical equipment it can only be as good as it's operator and as far as limitations there really are none creative wise. The 500 offers infinite possibilities just like the 5000!

nobody said you "cant" make decent beats on a 500 but comparing it to a 5000....cmon now

sh*t I could make bangas on the Motif all day long. I could also make em on reason if I really wanted to. But as far as work flow, ease of use, options, tools, practicality, Support and the overall feel.... the 1000 makes the most sense for me. Now if a 500 works for you so be it but I rather leave em on the shelf. THATS why I say its best to test it out in a store as well as hear opinions. Everybody saying "look look I did this on a 500" and thats not the point. If you could get the same result with less of a headache then thats increasing PRODUCTIVITY....seems like some cats are arguing about CREATIVITY which NO piece of gear can magically give you. Moving right along.

Ah I guess I misinterpreted the negative feedback. As I'm a hobbyist currently, and not "working" with this or getting paid, so I was thinking about this from a different angle and phrased my question improperly I suppose. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
