Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

the 500 is a great tool, but it has its limitations, like no waveform editing, no chopshop, and tedious menu diving. But there's this 'oldschool' touch about chopping by ear that gives my samples some imperfections that I like, sort of 'human feel'...
There's no challenge about 'look, I made these tracks on da 500', just take the time to look around and pick the tool you feel is the most adapted for what you wanna do (and your budget!). personally, after looking at 2000xl vids I realised these had the features I'd enjoy to have (with their inconvenients too...), but as I'm living far away from home and moving around I'm limited to small machines.

sh*t I could make bangas on the Motif all day long. I could also make em on reason if I really wanted to. But as far as work flow, ease of use, options, tools, practicality, Support and the overall feel.... the 1000 makes the most sense for me. Now if a 500 works for you so be it but I rather leave em on the shelf. THATS why I say its best to test it out in a store as well as hear opinions. Everybody saying "look look I did this on a 500" and thats not the point. If you could get the same result with less of a headache then thats increasing PRODUCTIVITY....seems like some cats are arguing about CREATIVITY which NO piece of gear can magically give you. Moving right along.

it's like, u look a heads back in the day like dj premier on the mpc60 and pete rock on the sp1200, i mean the samplers back then was trash compared to wuts out now and u wonder how they did wut they did. fuggin, u see madlib do half his joints on the boss sp303 wit barely any sampling time but look how he freak his sht. my point is, i'm sure the 1000 or the 2500 may have more options or a different workflow than the 500 but at the same time that don't mean that you need all that to do what you gotta do. it's like u wonder how the pioneers even made beats without a 2500 or a 1000.

and it's like, u wonderin why heads is like, 'look what i made on the 500'? i mean i kicked my first post off wit a beat cuz most of the heads i see on most forums is just str8 talk. like i ain't heard none of they sht but they talkin all pro like they done did it all. so to me it was jus like, lemme kick my sht and let u decide for yourself. if u feel it, then good, if not, then so be it.

and the whole vibe i'm gettin from you is just wack dawg, like u on some mormin type sht tryin to convert people away from the 500 like it's some type of forbidden voodoo in the production world. but i mean i could care less honestly, i actually love it when people hate on the 500 cuz i ain't want people bitin my gear anyway. it's like when it comes down to it, whether you got the 2500 1000 or the 9999999xb special edition xl penis up your butthole, imma still make hotter sht than you.

^ now you talking that fag sh*t.....you corny son cuz nowhere in my post did I disrepect anyone. I stated MY POINT OF VIEW. Look at the post. Its a question right? So I answered it based on how I felt. I dont like the 500 period. If you dont like my opinion log off, go make beats, do something other than read my post and catch feelings. I swear man yall online thugs are hillarious.

I swear man, sh*t like this is why the forums are wak. Dude wit the post above me is on some real lame sh*t. Talking about the vibe you get from me???? You reading into my post way to deep if youre getting a "vibe". The original poster asked for advice and just cuz I think the 500 is wak cats come out catching feelings...cmon now. I dont like the 500 I never will like the 500 and thats it. Cats with 2500's say that about the 1000 and I cant see why I would get as emotional as some of yall get. Me....I just do me and make my bangas. End of the day when people are knockin to my sh*t they could care less what I make it on......

Maybe if you two (diggin24seven & poundaproblem) could agree about something, the "vibes" would go much more smooth, so here it goes.

This must be the worst sampler ever:

It's really not so bad considering when it was made and how much it cost. If you watch this:

You'll see Paul using either an SK-1 or SK-5, though I can hear the RZ-1 sounds on a few "3 Feet . . ." tracks.

poundaproblem wrote:lol my next sampler was a gemini with no midi...ha ha I think it had a whopping 8seconds..

Probably the same one I had. If you moved the pitch fader down though you could get more sampling time. It served its purpose but it broke after two or three years; just went haywire. Typical Gemini krap. I got a Roland MS-1 after that . . .

eimer I think I have one of those in my couch somewhere!

I love my 500 but I still look forward to getting the 5000 model soon, even when I do I will keep my 500 fasho... My dream is to have a whole line of MPC's set up to work together so I'll have more sounds ready on demand to command. Walk in my lab and see a 500, 1000, 2000, 2500, 4000, 5000 all sittin' together ready to yam! I kno, pretty pointless but ****, I will feel super powerful :D
