Hey folks,

Longtime reader, first time poster or something along those lines!!

I have made the move from an 2000 to a 2500 after much debate...... I dont miss taking 45 mins to chop a 4 bar loop to 32 parts but I do miss the jog wheel from the 2000 and the tank like feel either.... anyways.

I have the jjos 5.52 on the 2500 and was considering going to using the Akai OS. I have seen the spec sheet for the comparisions between the jjos1, jjos2 and akai OS but was wanting to know if it would be considered a good move. My situation is that I want to work on an OS that is stable and have read that the jjos is not. Any advice?

Also when chopping the sample on the jjos...... I chopped a 4 bar into 32, assign to program, add 3 kicks, 2 snares and hihats etc then got to record my seq and find that the sounds are cancelling out ie. almost like the frequency on the kick cancels the hi hat and also the samples only play the first 32nd of a note. I read that it is the too many voices. Question is is that if 32 voices are used and recorded on one part or if 32 are used on one program?

This was not a problem on my 2000 where i would use 3 banks of samples and a full bank of drums.

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers

your program is set to mono, which means that every sound within your program mutes all other sounds within the same program. check your manual about how to change the program to poly. it's the "play" field which i believe is in the params window of program mode.

Ok, I normally use mono for the sample on the 2000 so it mutes just the sound or sounds on that pad. SO you are saying that you can mono the whole program.... sweet. I'll try that when I get home. Thanks I'll let you know how I go.

Peace

The Poly change seemed to make a difference, but using the mono has given me a whoile new lease on some otherwise dead concepts!

JJ seems to be the ish, I have used other 2500's with the akai OS which was a little backward. This is a walk in the park, breath of fresh air etc etc.......

Any reason I would step from 5.52 JJ to JJos2?

Cheers

Apart from the jog wheel, I learned to take advantage of the [-] [+] buttons right under the jog wheel.

Only ever used a friend's 2500 sporadically, but I reckon that if someone came up with a jog wheel modification to make it smoother and sturdier, they would clean up.

I did a custom mod for the jog wheel but some would probably say its ghetto. to me it functioned better and gave me more precision.

It requires you to take apart the face plate, remove the original job wheels cover, and put on a water bottle cap. YES its a bottle cap but dont knock it until you try it. It fits perfectly so that it is secured at the bottom for extra ruggedness. to me it feels almost like at 60/3000, you can feel every click.

Yo dont knock until you try it, it really takes that cheap feeling away. It also look cleaner (it looks better in person), to me it does at least. but like i said try it, you wont be disappointed.

if you dont like it put the original back on, i only attempted this because i bought the unit used for 800 fully loaded and didnt like how the knob was faded, sloppy, and all of the above. I had a cap right next to me and what do you know, it fits perfect.

JUST DO IT LIKE NIKE.
