I agree, yet the manual says you can do it directly (Top of Ch. 10) .
You might get away with a balanced XLR <-> 1/4" cable, but I do not want to hear the results..!

can't you just take a normal mic (i.e: no phantom power), use a XLR to 1/4 lead and then crank the rec gain real high... i'm gonna give this a go tonight cos it would be good to have for field sampling...

All I can say is LOW QUALITY. Mic preamps are the way to go.

shame, i usually record all mic stuff through a mackie vlz so i get plenty of boost, but being able to get good quality mic input into the 1000 would be sweet..., i was planning on sampling some live drums down a rehearsal studio using just a mic into the 1000......oh well....

yeah its low quality! at least thats how it is on my 2000
