AKAI MPC1000 OS V2.12 Is Up As Of 8/5/08

I didnt see this posted anywhere yet so i thought i would throw it out there for those who care. As Of 8/5/08 the new updated akai OS V2.12 is up and ready to be downloaded. This is what they have fixed and or added to the new 2.12 OS....

New features/Changes:
1. Chop Shop Update: Added the ability to load and save Chop Shop 2.0 files.
2. added the ability to AUTO detect split points for Chop Shop.
3. Added ability to loop patched phrases
4. Added the ability to record Track Mute Events
5. Added ability to load MPC5000 .all files.

Bug fixes:
1. Fixed issue where large hard drives are not formatted properly in the MPC 1000
2. fixed "Directory Error" when overwriting files on 80 gig drive.
3. Fixed issue where Attack and decay settings would produce sonic anomalies
4. Fixed issue where a "Directory Error" would occasionally occur when replacing
project on hd after reboot
5. Fixed issue where FX2 Delay Tempo Sync was not following sequence BPM.
6. Fixed issue where Overdub and record led did not work when recording after sequence change
7. Fixed issue where Note Repeat did not work for internal sounds when played from a
midi controller
8. Fixed issue where the sequence name doesn't appear on MAIN screen after Load
Folder is executed.
9. When a track is muted the pads are no longer muted.
10. Increased Metronome Volume.
11. Fixed issue where there were erratic tempo changes after converting song to sequence.
12. Fixed issue where 'play start' started the sequence at 'loop first bar', not beginning of sequence
13. Fixed issue where Tap Tempo via footswitch wouldn't work
14. Fixed issue where Note Repeat would play other than selected sound in trim mode
15. Fixed issue in Sample Trim Mode - plays random audio when end is set shorter than
loop point.
16. Fixed issue where 'pgm' could not be set to 'off' from startup
17. Fixed issue where Note Repeat/Tap Tempo did not work in TRIM mode

oh, that's right... i use JJ OS.

damn, i didnt expect akai to ever actually release an update. now that they have, it almost feels like an insult. too litttle, too late - cos im rockin jj now, innit.

This is a good update because it allows me to exchange files back and forth from an MPC 1000 and an MPC 5000. The MPC 5000 is incompatible with many files created using an MPC running JJ OS.

Now...I wonder if Akai will take this a step further and add additional features to the Akai OS that would make the JJ OS obsolete Probably not likely...but I will be keeping an eye out for future developments...

Akai has been under a lot of fire lately. People are pissed off about the bugs in the 5000, the messed up pads on the 1000 and the $150 fix, and a whole lot of things.

They no doubt read the forums, and I think they realize that there has to be a major push towards quality control if the Akai and MPC brand are going to be worth anything anymore. Someone probably said "Oh shit, our 'fans' hate our guts" and realized something had to be done.

I expect Akai to be doing a lot of updates and improvements to keep everyone from jumping to the Linndrum II when that arrives.

Besides the ability to swap files between the 5000 and the 1000, is there anything else that has been added that JJ has not covered?

Gosh, sounds like they actually started paying their coders. What a radical business concept!

But yeah -- too little, too late. My checkbook isn't going anywhere near a 3500 not 5000 so I don't have to worry about that.

I hope the update includes instructions to reformat the hard drive after install, assuming they actually did correct that formatting bug. Now they just have to update the other two crippled machines with the same fix.

I have to say I rather concur with the sentiment... I really love the 1k with jj os 2, can't wait for the pad upgrade... and then I think I'm going to cool it for hardware purchases for a while. The 5000 looks interesting from a what's next stand point, but it certainly doesn't seem like a must buy, especially with all of the reported bugs that still exist on it.

I've been considering on *maybe* a korg kp3 to go with the mpc 1k, or probably more likely a mac mini (or other small form factor system) to run some virtual instruments/fx. I haven't envisioned a slick way to tie it all together yet though, so for now it is still in imagination land.

i see they're still using HUGE playschool fonts...

fisher price doesn't have anything on akai?
