midi keyboard to mpc

wassup guys I have a mpc 2500 and a yamaha mm6 keyboard and i want to hook up my keyboard to the mpc to record my sequence. i have a midi cable hooked up from midi out of my keyboard to midi in on the mpc, but no keyboard sounds are coming out. can someone tell me what i'm doin wrong.

i forgot to add that i can get the mpc sounds from to my keyboard, but cant get the keyboards sound to play and record on to the mpc

See, I knew you could do it. It seems like you had the answer to your delima already phrased out.

Your understanding of Midi isLacking according to whatI am reading so far.

I do not know anything about your Yamaha, but Ican provide basic info on the use of MIDI.....

You prob know that Midi isnot an audible sound producer... It is just a siganl telling your devices to trigger whatever sound is associated with said button/key press.

So when you record into the MPC using Midi, all the MPC is recording is the trigger/signal and not the sound..... In order to record the sounds from the Yamaha, you will need to add a mixer to your setup in order for it to "process" your keyboard sounds.

So if you recordasequence using the MPC/keyboard setup, the sounds you haveselectedin the keyboard will not be heard unless the keyboard is sending said sounds to your speakers.

I have:
MPC Midi In--->Keyboard MIDIout
Keyboard Midi in---> MPC out
I also havethe headphone plug going into a channel on my Mixer
As well as the Rec outs of the MPC going into another channel on the mixer...

In order to produce the same soundsagain after recording, thekeyboard will have to be on in order to play it the wayyou recorded it.
