I will be quite frank....

I am really not fond of the MPC 5Ks Chop Shop 2. It is really a step backwards after using Chop Shop with the MPC 2500 running JJOS. Chopping using the JJ OS feels like 10x faster than doing it with the MPC 5K.

The MPC 5K has been chopping up a sample into 16 parts. When I am editing Region 1 by adjusting the sample end point, I can adjust that end point no further than the start point of Region 2. So if the beginning of Region 2 contains sound that I want to include in Region 1, I have to go into the edit menu and combine Region 1 and 2, and then I am able to do this. Then I have to repeat the entire process in Region 2.

With the JJ OS, I can freely adjust the start/end points of each Region (sliced samples). The start/end points of any slice can overlap those of another. JJOS calls this nondestructive chopping..and it is great. You can also easily zoom in on samples when making this chops. No such luck with the 5K.

I already mentioned this before, but even my Fantom G has a better way to slice than the 5K. The Fantom G has a method to allow you to easily add or delete slice points with the ability to preview the slices. It even has a scrolling vertical cursor to assist with editing. Once the slice points are set the way you like, you execute the chop feature. The only drawback is that you are limited to only 16 chops. And like the MPC5K, start/end points of sliced samples cannot overlap each other.

I wish a feature OS of the MPC 5K combines the methods of the JJ OS as well as the Fantom G. This would be a great workflow enhancer.

Taking things further....they can retain the current auto chop feature but improve the interface. What they can do is to actually let you visualize the sample. The Recovery time, Threshold, and Sensitivity can be tied into the Q-link sliders. As you adjust these perimeters, it would great if you can see the slice points being added to the sample. When the slices points are where you want them, them you simply execute the chop function. This method is similar to the way Recycle works with its sensitivity slider.

So while I wait/hope for these to be implemented..please feel free to add comments or suggestions to improve the current workflow of the 5K.

Can you send the samples out to an audio editor and back to the 5k as a workaround? Good points by the way.

Agreed - the current 'AUTO' implementation of ChopShop is, and always has been poor, regardless of the MPC . Having to guess suitable parameters, then wait for processing and generally never getting anything that great (regardless of settings used) is pointless. I want to see realtime, visual detection of attack peaks like Recycle, especially on the flagship MPC.

And taking away the ability to fine zoom in on region edit points is completely baffling. What's all that about? Did someone forget to implement this?

I haven't tried this yet but it seems like a good alternative to what I am doing know. I do have Recycle. So I would have to test to see if Recycle created programs will work in the 5K. With all the talk about compatibility with legacy Akai formats, this method may face some issues.

I've been actually chopping my samples in audacity on my laptop and then savings them to the 5k harddrive. Until chopping becomes a little more fluid on the 5k. Also, a nice "line" so i can get a visual vs listening idea of where I am in a sample would be cool.

Yeah you can edit externally, but that's like having a brand new sports car and then having to push start it...

IMO, it's like having some nice looking factory wheels but instead you want a cleaner look and better fit so you get some custom 24's. haha

Adding it here isn't going to help. Email your suggestions to Akai... they are the ones that would be changing anything if it ends up being changed...

I agree every body wants a car as fast as a porch but dont want to pay 100gs.
No instrument on its own is a great instrument it would cost to much, thats why you would ad different instruments and plug in to add to what you already have giving you functions which some off your othe gear might not have.

I will give you guys a free tip its the new AKAI EMU X3 8000 MPC its here, look into it.
I got the X2 and waiting for the X3 with the Extractor and chicken translator upgrade.

And may all your dreams be met.

Thats retarded!
The 5K is a sampler. If you pay retail (which is $2,600) it should really edit samples & chop as good as anything.
Also consider it a drum machine sampler, so it should shine the most for CHOPPING out drum hits & not timestrecthing long vocals.
The rims point makes more sense. I could understand the synth engine being feature light, but not the sampling.
So imo, adding rims would be more like adding synths & other sounds.
Using a different sample editor is more like pulling the engine out of your brand new sports car for an older one.
The rims point is still valid though. The post that is gay is the chicken translator MPC 8000 bs.
Good one you bozo!!

Lisen yo lil b..tc watch what you say, if you want to talk like a grown man, Ill talk to you grown talk we can exchange number.

So remember b...tch this is tecnology fool so hit me private we can talk away from forum like grown men do.

To that dum f..ck the object is that this is not going to be the greatest mpc in the world, the object is to make great music easier faster beter so you can go ahead and wait and wait and wait dip sht and wait for next ten years for this thing to get better ill keep banging my music out without using the chop sh...it on the MPC-5000 because it dont make no damm sense to complain about what has not been fix.
People should be looking for the best way to use this machine and give there opinion on what can be used and what is being use out there by other producers to great effect.
Thats my two cents.
yall lil punks need to step the f.ck back.

I think he is. I doubt he is talking to anybody else.

Maybe I'll just take him up on the PM offer & us "grown men" can talk about the chicken translator in the MPC 8000.
I'm just defending the people here because you tried to clown them saying you got some MPC8000.
Yawn... not interested in making you look any dumber.
I need to quit fighting on these forums. scary
