Record SYSEx data

I'm facing the same problem. SysEx events can't be recorded. Later on I'll have a look at pushing some in by hacking a .mid file. There's definitely activity on the cable when dumping programs from my RackAttack or MC 505 but MPC5k doesn't record anything. Dumping CC information works fine.

Yes, this is a bug, but was not solved yet in 1.02.

Grid Edit:
After chopping a sample and making a program..I still have problems with playing that program in Grid Edit Mode. I get no sound when playing the pads.

Additionally, once this happens, it is no longer possible to step record or real time record while in Grid Edit.

Hello,
I am still facing a chopping issue. I will chop a sample and edit the st and end points. I don't do anything else to the sample, I just leave that section highlighted. When I press the main screen, certain samples show up and others don't. Usually 2 or 3 per pad bank. When I got back to the trim mode, the end point is still there, but the beginning has been either pushed all the way forward to the end point, or the number on the star point is something like -35,000. Negative, for some reason. It's easy to trim it back to where I wanted it, but eventually the sample will do it again. Like it's not there when I play it. I am sampling out of my computer, just the stereo outs of my midi interface into the in's of the mpc. I'm on phono setting. That's really all I can tell you. It doesn't happen on every beat. But when it happens, it's a complete show stopper. It sucks. Please let me know if you have any insight, or if there is something I can do...And for christ's sake, enter it in the bug base!
Thank you,
BoomBaptist

I am having problems trying to install version 1.02. I downloaded the file to the CF in the 5K but got a "not valid OS on CF" error message. I tried both zipped and unzipped versions and the file with the name "Root" but the same thing happened. The manual says to download to the Root of the CF but I couldn't work out how to do it.
Could someone please try to explain to me how I can do this or will I need a CF Card Reader? Any help would be much appreciated.

you are trying to " load " the OS instead of installing it !!

Just put it on the root of your CF then put your MPC on pushing 2 + 3

Check your manual for further infos on how to update.

I got my 5K a fortnight ago but I have had a lot trouble with MIDI sequencing. Any time I tried a lot of step editing it froze and had to be swotched off losing the sequence. It could be to do with the keyboard I am using is a Yamaha Home Keyboard which has a very strange MIDI system and perhaps theres a loop or some kind of active sensing which is messing with it. Everything else seems in reaqsonable shape and the sampling is very easy and programmable.

Don t use the same midi channel for IN and OUT as this may cause a " loop " & unit freezes

It s a known bug not solved by 1.02

Tomazzi,
That chopping issue is a known bug? I posted about it a few times and it was never confirmed into the bug base. I would like to know that SCD confirmed it in the bug base, so I can stop making a racket about it, knowing, or at least hoping that AKAI will fix it in the next update. SCD, has this been added to the base?
Thanks

I am a little tired but I need some help in case I am imagining this....

I created a sample based songs with two programs. One program was one of the drum kits that came with the 5K...and the other was created using Chop Shop w/ 16 chops.

I created a sequence with the chop program. Next, I used the drum kits to try to program a drum loop. While programming from the 5Ks main screen..everything is good. However, if I am in the Program Edit Mode and trigger the pads....there seems to be some latency from the time I hit the pads and hearing the actual samples.

Can someone check this out?

Thanks for the info on the Midi Loop, it seems to be ok now. Thanks also for the info about the installation of V 1.02, but I haven't been able to access the root directory of my CF card. I have spoken to IT people at work but I still can't find where the root directory is. I have a Toshiba Equium Laptop running Windows XP and I would be grateful for any advice.

Same for me, after working about an hour. Chopping seems to be the critical action. Is the same as in 1.0 and 1.01.

In addition some of the feedback based EFX (Reverb, Delay) tend to create a really annoying digital feedback with certain settings (Reverb with Decay>=70 while sliding up outer left Q-Link). Sounds like a white noise and is at full level (with main volume on 9'o clock position it's still banging my eardrum like sh**, nearly fell off my chair). Setup was Phaser as first block in FX1 and Reverb/Delay as second. I played a drum loop through FX1.

The root directory is easy to find: just digg for it ;-) No to be honest: plugin the card into your card reader, if you open the device with Explorer, the first thing you'll see is the root directory (if it's mounted as G:, then G: is your root directory). Unzip the OS-file and move the .OS-file without renaming it to anything, keep it as it is. Maybe you should look for new IT-people.
