stanton direct drive or belt drive?

i've been lookin around for a new turntable, i'm not a dj at all just gona be usin it to listnen and sample from. I'm lookin at either getting the stanton t.50 or t.60, the t.50 belt drive is about a hundred dollars cheaper so im leaning towards that one, could you all give me some pros and cons of both, remember im not usin it for much scratching, ive also read that direct drive turntables put out more noise, is there much of a noticable difference, the quiter the better when it comes to sampling. I rather save some money and get the belt drive, but am i better off spendin a little more and getting the direct drive?

Hey bro what up? belt driven tables are almost impossible to scratch on and can damage the table, with that said, get the belt driven if your not gonna scratch and if its only for playing records for samples. Personally for me there is only one table worth buying and there is no substitute for quality. Tech 1200 that is, look into a used one, you'll never have to buy another table again and the resale value is really good. Save your grip those stantons are crap.

Hey Bruv...i use the Stanton T80 direct drive turntables..to scratch and also to sample...ive never had a problem.
Im personally against belt driven turntables...yeah they are cheaper...but as wear and tear goes and also reliablity..you cant beat Direct drive turntables..its probably better for you to spend the extra $$ and get at a direct drive. Also it depends on what needle/stylus your using...Ortofon's Concorde "arkiv" is awesome at picking up the sounds an flavour of an old record...

Get the T60X, the T60 without a cart (it's $50 cheaper).

I had a Shure M25C on mine for a while; a $25 cartridge.

Belt drive will be fine if you have no intention of scratching. I have a few demos on YouTube of my T60. I'm very happy with it and don't plan to upgrade it except with an exceptionally superior table, which would not be the 1200 but a Stanton ST-150 (even 120 really) or Vestax PDX-2000 or 3000.

T60 is a great table though.

direct drive ...better sound and will last longer then the belt on a belt drive table,
it one less part you have to worry about.

i got a stanton str8-20 belt drive and have had it for a while and had no problems with it.even do some light (and i meen light) scratching with it.original slipmat,needle,everything and its going stong

give it a few yrs , i have to order belts for people all the time that have belt driven turntables. plus thats what i started with but moved on to the direct drive about25yrs ago never had to do anything to my tech 1200 just dust them off from time to time.

i feel ya on that.but really there is no need for me to get one right now.when this thing finally takes a shyt on me,and i know eventually it will,i will upgrade.but i 've had this one for a couple of years now.and everything is original.plus not to mention that i bought this used not brand new and it is still going strong.i guess it's all about how you take care of things.im not real rough with my equipment because i spend my hard earned cash on it.

Even if it dies, a belt costs what $5? Not very complicated to install . . .

honestly stanton turntable are rubbish, from the bottom all the way to their flagship. i never cared for their design and their durability.

i was thinking of picking one up just for listening, i loathe turning on my mixer and turntable just to listen to records. i rather have something line level and just plug it straight into my home stereo, which doesnt have a phono pre, to listen.

Wow, you're a real piece of work. I would ask you if you've actually used Stanton's high end, but you'd probably lie and say you've used every model and that your best friend's broke or whatever.

You tell him not to buy a T50 ot T60 then reference him to that POS that can't even accept a standard mount cartridge?

Don't give advice based on what you heard your 'boy say, okay? If you haven't used a product and don't know its technical specifications don't speak on its quality. Head over to DJforums or Scratchworx and see what a number of people say about the ST150, or ask me who has no problem with the T60.
