anyone have a yamaha mm6 midi'ed to their mpc?

i need to know exactly step by step how to make it work.

i cant seem to get more than 2 patches to transmit on channels 1 and 2.

i need to know how to get into a multitimbaral mode, how to set up patches to transmit on certain channels, and so on.

please help.

the manual has this covered but its not easy to understand...
on page 84 there is the voice list. to use this voice numbers with the mpc change drum to midi, choose a channel from 1 to 16 and turn the program to no.1. if you change the number on no.1 this should change your voices on the mm6.
if this doesn´t work you need to set the msb and lsb numbers by hitting the window button on the no.1 field. this might be needed anyways because the mm6 has more than 128 voices and the no.1 value only is 0-127.
use the utility function to turn local control off. you also might want to set the clock to external.
now you should have 16 different voices, but beware the mm6 has only 32 voices tone generator so if you use all 16 midi channels some voices might not sound like played solo and some voices can be cutoff if the 32 voices are exeeded.

Does the mm6 have a sequencer.

wassup. yo i got an mm6, but i dont have it hooked up to the 2500. was jus wondering if u got it hooked up where you could hear what your playing in the sequence mode. everyone tells me you got to have it in the record mode, but say if you record a melody and you wanna add a bassline. how you gonna play with the melody if you cant hear it in record mode. if you some how did figure out how to do this can you tell me step by step what you did, hooking up wires and all.

you need two midi cables - one from the midi out of the mpc to midi in on the mm6 and one from the midi out of the mm6 to midi in on the mpc - because midi data is like water in only flows in on direction through the cables from out to in. now you can record the notes you play on the mm6 AND have the mpc tell the mm6 what to play in playback.
to actually get the audio from the mm6 running through the mpc you need to hook up the audio outs of the mm6 to the record in of the mpc. then turn input through to on if you want to hear it. set your recording level in record mode and then go back to the main screen. now follow the instructions above to select different midi tracks.
hope now you can get a little further but handholding is not welcome on this forum - you have to show some effort yourself... this will also help you in your real life - try to solve your problems alone first, then read what others have done and finally if you still stuck come back and ask again...

@that-1-dj: yes, the mm6 has an onboard sequencer with eight tracks - you can store up to five user songs on the unit...
google is your friend... also there are downloadable manuals for most of the recent synthesizers and other studio equipment all over the internet...
problem with the mm6 manual is that it not clearly shows how to connect the unit to an outboard sequencer - only the connection to a sound module and to a sequencer on a computer are shown in detail. to find out how the mm6 works with other sequencers you need to have basic knowledge of midi before and you also have to read some parts of the manual with that knowledge in mind to understand it.

I did a little research on it and I read that it only has 6 tracks, But what I am wondering is could you take 16 voices from the mm6 and thru MIDI use them all at once on the MPC, I have the motif es6 and I can do that If my es6 is in song or seq Mode. but I was wondering if it is possible to do it with VOICE or PERFORMance Mode if you know how to please let me know. Thanks!

do you want to know the way for the mm6 (look some posts above) or for your motif?
basically both units are 16part multitimbral sound modules if used with an external sequencer. the mm6 has only 32 voice tone generator and the motif at least 64 or even 128 voices polyphony - so if you use all 16 voices at once there maybe some sounds cutoff on the mm6.
to my knowledge you have to be in song mode or in sequencer mode to use all 16 midi channels and it is not possible in voice or performance mode. maybe another motif owner is able to give more information here.
