Recording Samples From An Mp3 Player or Computer

Please excuse my newbie-ness, but I'm wondering how to record samples from an Mp3 player or computer to my 500? I have a double sided 1/8" cord and a 1/8-1/4" jack. Do I plug the mp3 player into the line-in? As for the comp, just go from the headphone plug to the MPC's Line-in?

Once again, sorry for my newbieness.

first you're gonna need:
1. MPC
2. MP3PLAYER/COMPUTER (anything that plays audio)
3. 1/8" to 1/4" cable.

plug 1/8" side of your cable into mp3 player or computer, and plug the 1/4" side into the 'INPUT L' of your MPC.

now in the MPC, hit MODE->RECORD

then highlight 'STEREO' and change it to 'MONO L'.

now you should be able to hear what's playing on your MP3 player/Computer through your mpc. now the possibilities are endless.

now let's say you hear a girl having a orgasm and you want to sample it, hit the 'DO IT' button on the MPC to start recording and now play the orgasm on the computer and then hit 'DO IT' again on the MPC to stop recording. now it's gonna ask you to hit the pad you want to save the orgasm on, once you select the pad, hit 'DO IT' once more and you're done. the sample is on the pad and in your memory.

now if you want to edit the sample you just recorded, then hit MODE->TRIM and u can figure it out from there cuz i'm tired of typing lol.

If u want to sample from ur computer its best to sample it with a music software program like audacity. Save the samples as a 16bit 44.1khz wav file, and then export it thru ur usb port to the mp's CF card.

Plus if I were you I would sample from cd's rather then from mp3's. Vinyl still remains the ultimate source to sample from.

Use audacity to convert the file to wave.

why process it to wav through audacity when you can just sample straight into your mpc and get the best quality?

^ you wont get the best quality going from a headphone jack.

I use Audacity already, I was just wondering if I could pull this off too for some other samples. My mp3 player records fm radio, and of course sampling directly from the comp gives you a wealth of options too.

I would still prefer audacity. Before having an mp with a chopshop feature I sampled everything thru audacity. Gives u more options then chopping with the 500, plus it works much faster. Or try the freeware chopshop that the guyb guy made.

Because this gives the best quality

If you sample it into th machine you will get all sorts of analog noise.

all this talk of quality is lost when you use mp3s, if you produce a track made with samples from mp3, by the time its mastered its really going to sound like ass.

Sh*t in, sh*t out. Dont use mp3 as a source for samples!!

I agree, but if .mp3 is the only way the convert way would be the best. Every time you go from analog to digital, or the other way, you add noise and downgrades the resolution of the sound.
