The alternatives would be the MPC 1000, 2500, 4000 as well as the MV series.....

I could sell my MPC 5000 right now and purchase any of those units above and still have money left over. To answer your question directly...yes, I would still buy the 5K. If I wasn't using the 5K..my choice would be the MPC 2500 with JJ OS2.

I'd definitely still buy it, and here's why:

A year from now, it's going to be better than it is right now. It might not be the "next big thing", but once the bugs get worked out, it's going to be bullet proof.

The MV-8800 retails for the same as the 5k.
If you sell your MP5K machine used you would get about the same value as an MV-8800 that is a month or 2 old.
Of course you could get an MV-8000 from late '04 that is 4 years used & have money, but hey the MPC4K dropped around this time as well. You could grab a 4K w/ some dough left. The MV-8800 isn't a huge upgrade over the 8000, but it is released in '07 & still retails for the same as the 5K new.

Read my rant on the MV though after using for 8 days & spending my Friday transferring data over usb 1 again

I am in the land of milk and honey aka Japan and its electronic district. I was looking up second-hand MV-8800s and MPC 4000s. I found them as low as $1200. With so many second-hand MVs on the market today, I wouldn't buy a new one.

I would buy it again but I Would wait until the price goes down a bit and the OS is updated and stable, right now it's somewhat of a pain in the ass.

What problems are you having with the latest OS 1.02? Please share this info in the bug thread if you are having stability issues.
