CF reader Big issue

We have sold Kingston CF cards for years and they work great with all models of card reader drives. Personally, I've never seen a card reader drive that required a certain brand of CF card.

The issue is usually an installation problem, as Lampdog suggests.

I set up the mpc to startup on the floppy... Is it ok ?

Regarding the ribbon cable i can t change the way because of the cable itself...
I think i have to change my ribbon cable it fits only in one way...i can t put it close to the power .
I try to explain with pics ...

You seem to hve the ribbon cable in correctly. I can clearly see on the card reader board a little 1 indicating pin 1 and the red stripe is located on that side, as it should be. Make sure that the cable is not twisted where it plugs into the MPC mainboard and that the red stripe if also located on the same side when it plugs into the board. You can always cut those little plastic notches off the IDC connector if you need to reverse how the cable plugs in to the connector on the MPC but that is seldom necessary.

Have you tried the master/slave settings, as suggested?

Yes i tried slave master and without...
The ribbon cable is not twisted . The red part of the cable on the moterboard is like that ...

I don t see atapi at all ..It says only no floppy device ...When i load i have scsi or F-ROM.

I already formated my CF card in fat in my pc ...

I'd say the MPC is not recognizing that IDE drive, if it isn't offering you the ATAPI option on Device:. Are you sure that drive is compatible with the MPC2000XL? Not all IDE card reader drives will be.

Do you have a link to the website where you bought it?

I am sure this reader works on mpc because it has been recommended on a french website .I m trying to solve the problem with him as well on an another forum...

That may be true, but in my recent experience I have been sent a card (non-branded) that wasn't recognised at all. I got a full refund so it was cool once I bought a new card.

With no card in the MPC I also recieve the message "No floppy device"... "ATAPI" isn't even an option until I power up with a working card in the drive.

If you ever get the drive working, you'll need to format the CF card with the MPC.

I noticed the website doesn't mention MPC compatibility but if others have purchased the drive and made it work, it should work for you as well. The thing about installing the drive is there just isn't much to get wrong - the ribbon cable, the master/slave jumper and the power cable. That's it.

If I were you, I'd carefully remove the little plastic notch on the end of the cable that plugs into the MPC board and try reversing that end. Just be careful you don't cut into the ribbon cable when you slice off the notch.

You shouldn't need to do that as it may stop you having full PC compatibility for transfering files. I was mistakenly sent a 2gig card instead of a 1gig which gave me further problems. People in here recommended formatting with FAT, FAT16 or using MPC Editor's format utility. The only thing that worked was MPC Editor but that left me with only 32meg on the card to use! I also tried the MPC format but that wasn't too successful either...

As a last ditch attempt I formatted with FAT32 in the PC and everything kicked into life after that!

I must have had the card reader in and out of my MP about 20 times before I realised it was the card causing the problems, and that was only due to a lucky find of an old camera CF card which showed up straight away!!

Just get yourself a new card and see how you get on.
