I'm trying to come up with new and more creative drum patterns and needed some advice, and basic patterns.
Well I play a blend of bebop, funk rock, alternative rock, down tempo, and I wanted new drum patterns instead of these:

I used no paste for the sake of keeping the patterns aligned.
But you can see that most of the patterns involve very little flam, accents, variation on the kick drum or on the hat. From time to time you can throw in a splash, crash, or a china, and switch over to a ride instead of a hat. But where do the toms come in? Where do polyrhythms come in? Where does 3/4 and 5/4, and 6/8 come in? Where do you add the snare rolls?
As you can see i feel that there is a lack of variation in drumming of most songs todays and i don't want this to be in my works. Anyone know of some patterns I could use? I'm looking for basic shuffle patterns, and jazz patterns.
One last thing I'm having problems with is when ever i used sampled drums, it just doesn't feel right. For example I'll listen to the song, let other people listen to it and instantly they recognize that its a computer recording and not a real drummer, keep in mind I do have a real drum set and actually am learning rudiments right now
. But there's definitely an apparent problem in playing drums on pads/keys/using loops. How can i fix this, I've tried playing the sample at 10 different velocities using my mod wheel. I've tried using the same sample twice and tuning them differently, panning them differently, eqing them differently, and adding slight delay. I don't know what I'm doing wrong I mean i have no problems playing great stuff on a real kit but when i touch the pads It sounds like a robot recorded this. I would just record myself playing but i don't have a mic.
But I see tons of other people playing great drums on their works in the music section, give me some suggestions guys.
